I am ranking for local site and using a rank checking tool, I realize there is a difference in search results between Google.com and Google.com.sg (the area I want to rank). I am working on the 'rent a site' model thus most of my clientel will be local businesses.

I am wondering, should I focus on the local search engine extension (.com.sg) or should I focus on the .com extension?

    Hi fated82,

I think it depends on what your client's customers use the most, if they mainly use the local version of Google then that is where you should focus your SERP ranking efforts.

This completely depends on the region which you are catering to.

If you want all your visitors from specific geographic region... Target localised search engine.

Yup, I want to target only Singapore searches. I guess I will focus mainly on the localised search engine, it also give my clients a better reason to buy into my offering

As you can guess, by trying to improve your web rank on the local Google portal, your site will get accessed by people and potential customers living in your country, thus, better chances of selling services and products to the buyers. Although trying to improve overall positions of domains on the main .com version of Google can be very great, but sometimes the buyers are local and not international and even a top Google.com ranking may not necessarily lead to lots of sales.

No wonder there are country-specific portals introduced by Google to the global sites admins and business owners because many times, the people using Google are simply interested in purchasing products from companies located in their countries and even cities, and naturally, if they find your high ranking site, they would tend to visit it, and possibly bookmark its URL to access it in the future as well. No wonder even big firms today are turning to their local markets more than before.
