domains vs subdomains for ranking time

I say ranking time because it seems to me with my limited experience that i can rank a regular domain and a subdomain with the same keywords in about the same amount of time

however and this is a big however, the subdomain never stays at the high ranking for very long. maybe a week or so at most and then starts sliding down the ranks into oblivion whereas the regular domain tends to stay where it is and doesnt dance as much

anyone else have this experience? is there something different that must be done to subdomains in order for them to keep their SERP place?

Weird. If you look at forums.digitalpoint.com and digitalpoint.com, forums.digitalpoint.com ranks better than digitalpoint.com despite it's subdomain.

    Hope that answers your question.

Needless to say I'm sticking with domains now
I like the idea of keeping all my sites a little more private anyway
Private in that nobody knows which are mine
