lets say i have an article with 500 words exact
i have about 5 mentions of the keyword "coffee maker reviews" in the 500 word article

so the density is

1) 3 * 5 /500 = 3%

2) 5 / 500 = 1%

which is correct 1 or 2??

Yes two is correct. It's generally best to stay between 2 to 5 percent keyword density and also have LSI keywords.

2 to 5 percent is too high

1.5% to 2% is about right

Keyword Density can be seen as the percentage of times a keyword appears on a page when you compare it to the total number of words on the page.

To work out density of a page is simple:

X = number of times a word appears on the page
Y = number of words on the page
    Word Density = X / Y x 100

I kind of see the confusion here

    for example

kw phrase is Big Mean Trucks (3 words)

    Ok
So the page has 100 words on it
the kw phrase (3 word phrase ) Big Mean Trucks appears ONE time

    But
    its a three word phrase

so is the kw density 1%? IMO it would be 1%

or would the kw density be 3%?

its easy to calculate with a one word kw

2, 3, 4 word kw phrases, how is it calculated?

Ok i saw this formula here: http://www.vodahost.com/web-hosting-...-density.html/

please correct me cause im trying to do a keyword density advanced checker online to help out the community and i really want to correct formula to use:
using the last "correcy formula" lets say i have an article or a text of 100 words (lets put it easy so the math is faster than compared to 500 or whatever)
    if i have a:

    • Keyword phrase of 3 words which repeats 3 times through the text, if use the last formula my keyword density is: 3.19% (the keyword/phrase density sounds ok)
    • Keyword phrase of 3 words which repeats 10 times through the text, if use the last formula my keyword density is: 12.51% (the keyword/phrase density doesnt sounds that eal if im using already 30/100 and its just 12.51)
    • Keyword phrase of 3 words which repeats 20 times through the text, if use the last formula my keyword density is: 33.33% (the keyword/phrase density sound quite dodgy to be a true density, cause ill have just 40 words left and the phrase )
    • Keyword phrase of 3 words which repeats 30 times through the text, if use the last formula my keyword density is: 75.00% (the keyword/phrase density sounds non logical since i repeat everyting 30 times and i have just 10 extra keyword to use in the whole article)
So this formula seems quite biased for me

    also here Live Keyword Analysis
a real popular keyword density, which they also quote, if you put lets say 100 words and a 3 words phrase repeated 10 times, it displays a 20.4% density, this is simply not right

can someone come up with which one is the real answer for keyword density on a phrase, i think i would use the one on the article before their "master formula"

(Phrase Number of Words)*(Repetition of the phrase)/(Total Words in the article)

    any help?

    Quote:

Many manual formulae for keyword density are poorly suited to calculating phrases

However, manual methods for calculating density (while they may be adequate for single words), are poorly suited to calculating the density of phrases of two or more words. This is because most fail to take into account the length of the keyword phrase. Examples of easy-to-find articles which nevertheless fall short in their manual formulae for keyword phrases are: "How to Calculate Keyword Density and What it Should Be" by Quentin Patterson and "How to Calculate Keyword Density" by Rena Sherwood.
These articles tell readers to count the total number of occurrences of the keyword phrase in the article (e.g. via 'find' command in MS Word) and divide this by the total number of words (which can also be calculated by MS Word via 'word count'), then multiply by 100 to get a percentage.
Although at first glance this formula may seem reasonable, it is only reasonable for single keywords, not phrases. This problem is best illustrated by considering an 'article' made entirely of a keyword phrase, for example 'fast red cars', e.g. in a 15 -word passage:
fast red cars fast red cars fast red cars fast red cars fast red cars
The keyword density of 'fast red cars' should intuitively be 100% in the 15-word line above, as it is made up entirely of the keyword phrase. However, the manual calculation described above would only result in a keyword density of 5 occurrences/15 words x 100 = 33%. This low value of 33% compared with the expected 100% is simply because the length of the keyword phrase isn't taken into account.

    Second one is correct...
But you don’t have to bother much about the keyword density as it matters less now.
There is not specified density. Your duty is to keep the keyword placement as natural as possible.
