Indexing the Page = Indexing the Backlinks?

Hey,
pretty simple question just can't seem to figure it out myself :/

If google indexed a blog post with a contextual link pointing to my money site does that mean it has also indexed the link? I checked the google cache and the link is visible and points to my site etc, but its not showing in any of the normal backlinking checkers(yahoo se, backlink watch etc).

I know this isn't a hard question, just though one of you may be able to explain it

Thanks guys,
Brendan

Yes, if the page is indexed, Google indexes the backlink as well.

It does not matter if it does not show up on backlink checkers right away, the important thing is that the backlink was indexed when the page was indexed and the juice was passed on to your money site.

Hi Brendan, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll be getting any benefit from the link. But assuming the link was active, at the time the page was indexed, then yes, Google would have recognised the link. But whether it's giving you credit or not, is another thing entirely.

    Hope that helps.

The logic in getting the pages that have your backlinks on them indexed vs. crawled/ spidered, or doing nothing etc .... is .... that this page's status - when indexed and cached - has our highest "knowable" probability of having the OBL's on it - counted towards SERPs increase.

Its one of the only 2 knowable [ imho ] status' that google gives us. Google is a huge database. If you undertsand how databases work, and think like a SQL person - I beleive this becomes more logical, and the importance of a page to Google and its algo.

Understand we are talking about merely the consumer facing data sets that google has only.

Status #1 - Indexed - page can be found in the index.

Status #2 - cached [ might want to look int why databases "cache" certain sets of data ]

Why are some pages cached ?

Why is there two different status of pages in googles vast data sets - indexed and cached?

Which is more important? To whom?

Whats the advantage to google to cache data?

So if some pages are merely crawled, others indexed and yet others crawled + indexed + cached ... what might we gather about the valuation to google of a indexed and cached page vs. a crawled page?

If we've now come to know even more since panda that a page of importance to google has more serp increasing link juice [ a page with PR - and the higher the better ] are there any semi logical conclusions or theories we can deduce from the difference of a cached vs. indexed vs. crawled only page's backlinks - and their importance to google ... and thusly - your serps.

What does it tell us about the benefits or lack thereof of links on pages google never even visits?

Do we all think that google visits EVERY page - regardless of how obscure and remote the site and content therein may be to its search trends and algo?

there ya have it - questions theories and some answers to make you think a little more.

I get this question a ton from my energizer customers.

especially the YSE. Many folks dont gather the difference of googles crawler and index vs. Yahoos SLERP crawler and its own seperate [ as in not googles ] index ...

many of the backlink checking tools utilize YSE's developer API to gather link data intelligence and thus are now flawed. Very few tools availed to us affordably have their own crawler that has the breadth of pages crawled like google or yahoo does/did. All these BL checker tools are merely a guide and a best guess as to what your true backlink profile looks like ot google anyways.

If we want to know what google thinks about pages and links - we're given two or 3 indicators.

    1. Webmaster Tools - link data. I dont use this - but many folks dont A. trust the link profiles info as a complete data set or ... B. want to give google such an easy location of all their $$$ sites

    2. the index

    3. cached index

So for me the answer is - I'll trust googles cached index data as the resource thats most import to my "Google SERPS" ... but whatever works best for you ease of sleep at tnight :-)

The way I see it, If your backlink shows up on any Google cache page, Google knows about your backlink.

Don't worry with tools besides Google cache, those external tools are all always going to be slower than the actual cache page, when updating.
