I have a domain thats been around for several years...I was thinking of setting up a Keyword enriched sub-domain on it.....then install an Adsense site based on wordpress.

With plenty of orig quality content and back links.

Any downside to this?

Outside the fact that an EMD is probably best.

I'm not a believer of EMDs, but If your building a sub-domain you can have all the EMDs you want, right?

    keyword.domain.com

I'm not sure about sub-domains & Adsense TOS, I don't see why it would matter, then again I've never tried Adsense with a sub-domain.

Well, Google has not mentioned it anywhere that it does not approve AdSense for sub domains.

I would advise you to read this AdSense policies and beginner's guide.

Many, many, many, big sites use subdomains.

      zap2it, go.com (ESPN, Disney, etc.), about.com,
(about has a zillion) even forum.digitalpoint.com.
Many of those have adsense, even are google partners.

The only downside, is that a subdomain is a tad awkward
for a site that is unrelated to the main domain. Although
this is what a subdomain is actually for. For little
guys like us, it is very awkward.

If you think you will get some magical boost from EMD or
any juice from the main domain, think again. Why not
just add more content to the main domain, or get a new
      domain?

In fact, I would rather do subfolders/pages than subdomains
      for what you propose.

Adsense can be put on any page that follows the rules.
Subdomains just have to follow the rules.

Yeah, you can add adsense to many site, even you don't have to add channel. Channel just a tool for tracking your ads for CTR dll. You can use it as long as you follow TOS of adsense. Like @ekramhossain said.

SEO-wise, you're better off going for sub directories rather than subdomains.
Google treats subdomains as a regular domain.

In fact, i built all my authority sites that way and with a good internal linking structure, new pages and directories rank pretty well with no external backlinks at all.
