Best Software Directories?

I have been doing quite a bit of SEO lately, and I decided that I wanted to try using software directories. (both for traffic & linking purposes)

I have never submitted to a software directory before, so I am wondering if anyone has a list of software directories that they like to submit to, to get either good quality backlinks or traffic to your website/product. (both would be best )

Can anyone tell me what the best software directories are?
