Ranked without any backlinks

Hey Warriors!

I just started my own site and I am working on getting it all together. I got my first bit of content and most of my layout done. I am just getting my wordpress theme to work a bit more as I want it to (wich just doesnt seem to like me:p)

Anyways, I downloaded a program called SERPattacks wich I used with my keyword research earlier on. And since I was off all month when I came back I had 500 new comments on my site! But I haven't done any backlinking yet! So I researched a bit and SerpAttacks also tells me I have not even 1 backlink. But the ranktracker says I am ranked nr. 17 for my main keyword on Bing!

Don't get me wrong I am very happy about this result before I even started. But I don't understand how I can get ranked without having any backlink from a ranked site or submitting my site to any search engines.

Does anybody know how this is possible?

As a second optional question: What should I do with all the comments? They all say how great my website is and how it helped them. But their links are not related to my site. It would be nice to have some good comments on my site to gain trust, but on the other hand I don't really want to link my site to random sites. They most likely just used a program to find sites that allow links in their comments and automatically commented on mine.

Again don't get me wrong! I'm also very happy to have any comments at all

Thanks in advance Greets Thom

    This isn't uncommon.
Are the comments genuine? If you look at them are there random misspellings in some of the comment text?

If you look at the commenters details you will usually found it to be including anchor text in the name and the domain is just spammy rubbish.

    Sorry to burst your bubble.

If not then well done, you must be doing something right.

Yes they have their link in the ankor text of their names. Most of them don't seem to have misspellings, but I already knew they were just spam to get backlinks from me.

The problem I'm facing here though is: Should I just ignore them or should I get a couple of them accepted. On one hand its spam. But on the other hand I really need some comments on my site. And they are so positive of my site, wouldn't that gain the trust of potential buyers?

I guess my question really is:
Should I accept comments with links that are not related to my website or should I just begin without any comments and try to get some of related websites myself instead?

      Edit: Thanks for the Reply!

I'd avoid any website that has loads of generic comments that say "oh this post is fantastic, your style of writing is amazing" , but that may just be me having an eye for spotting spam comments.

I'd keep the site commentless and generate comments from actual visitors. It may take a while for people to start interacting but it will be worth so much more in the long run.

If you accept a spam comment, then they are more likely to come back and just comment loads of times since you've accepted them once they will bypass the comment catcher and it will automatically approve them.

Ok thanks alot for ur advice.
I currently have them all pending for acceptance so I will just flag them as spam and either wait for actual interrested people to comment.
When I think about it you are right. I think I got a little too happy when seeing all these comments.

Ill just celebrate that I am on bing (my first site who can be found through a search engine) and finish my site.
Again thanks for the wake up call! Spam is a no-go

I agree with Beezer, get rid of the spam comments.

Also, make sure you activate the akismet plugin or you will spend most of your time trying to figure out what is a real comment versus spam. Akismet will do that for you.

    Hey friend,

I build wordpress websites and rank them 1st or second page google for my target (and yes, competitive) keyword in sometimes ONLY 3 days! 2 weeks seems to be the max. This is with ZERO backlinks. So, yes, good onsite SEO is VERy important and critical. The backlinks only add extra value and can really lock down your ranking.

As for the comments, is auto post software like 'scrapebox' and no genuine love there, unfortunately! Mark as spamadocious and move on!

    Cheers,

    Chip

Thanks for the help I will give that a try.
Also 3 days?! As far as I can see I have very little competition. But I am not that sure since this is my first site and my first try at IM. But thanks for that information. It gave me a good boost in confidence and dedication! I now am really psyched to get my site up and running as soon as possible! If only that wordpress would listen to me haha.

    Hi,

If your site is relatively new, the higher ranking could be short lived. Keep adding content and start building backlinks now to help avoid taking a hit in the future.

Just because the "backlink checkers" don't have anything listed doesn't necessarily mean you don't have any backlinks. You may have a couple. I know, it sounds confusing, but many of the backlink checkers give out different information. I've used some of them and haven't been able to find links listed on them that I know I have. That's when I stopped putting a whole lot of faith in them

In any event, you obviously don't have a ton of competition - and that's a great thing! If you want to move up the ranks even faster, take a look at the links that the top 3 results for your keywords have. There's a good chance you'll be able to get links from the same places (like by submitting your site to certain directories, or publishing an article on a specific site, etc.) It's a great way to play "catch-up". I did that for my target keywords (in addition to other link building on my own), and wound up on page 1 for my main keyword in less than a month (and haven't lost the ranking since!)

Also, don't worry about "submitting" your site to the search engines. It's a complete waste of time. The search engines will find your site on their own (it's what they do, after all! ), so spend the time you would have spent "submitting" to them, and use it to focus on building high-quality links.

Askimet is a great tool - and only about $5 a month. Just be sure to go through the comments labeled as "spam" before you delete them. I've found a couple of legitimate ones that fell through the cracks.

You'll have to decide what kind of strategy you're going to use when it comes to comments. Personally, I don't have a problem with someone dropping a link in an otherwise good comment. But if your comment has 5 links in it (or doesn't have much to say other than a link), I'm not going to approve it. You may not want links at all; it's your call.

      Good luck!

Don't be too happy... It often happens this. You should also add unique content to your pages very, very often!!! Don't delay working hard, because the good SERP depends on the "time" you are ready to spend working on your site!!!
