My site wen't from PR1 to PR3 today. Are there any benefits to this or is it just for bragging rights? Will I get more traffic?

In my opinion your own website PR is basically useless. Doesn't mean every page is a PR 3, and I don't believe it helps you rank much better. Back links from higher PR websites help but I don't think you will see any difference!

Are you kidding me? Try selling a PR1 on Flippa and compare that to the sale of a PR3 domain.

Congrats Crete you just increased the value of your assets today

    Hey,

Yeah in my experience, PR isn't really much of a factor these days. It doesn't appear to boost rankings -- but it may depend on the competition and niche.

    Hope that helps

    Thanks

A month-old site of mine got PageRank 1. I was surprised that it got this PR in a short time. This confirms that putting original content in our websites is a plus in terms of SEO..

I just got a site 4 months old from pr0 to pr5 but sadly it only sits on top of page 2 of google for the main keyword and isn't bringing in much money at all so unless I sell it, it doesn't really make any difference I can tell at the moment.

I'm sure I'll be seeing a lot more spammers soon though.

        Crete,

I have been looking at Flippa sales results and from what I can tell, people value PR... there are a lot of fresh sites for sale that have basically now real value and don't sell for much... but sites with anything more than PR 0 seem to get more attention...

interesting to hear that Google sometimes gives PR for an empty WP theme page

One of my webpages got a PR3 the other day out of nowhere. Considering the page is in position 102 of search results, has 0 backlinks and has only 2 articles on the whole site, i know it's worth nothing. Make of that as you will

I would think high PR is good for your site if you are selling links from that site.

PR means nothing in terms of the quality of your site. I just got a PR2 for a site I registered the domain for last week. All I did was install wordpress, change the title and site description, and.....that's it. I've been waiting for my site builder to get around to building the site, but he hasn't touched it at all yet.

Somehow Google saw my completely empty site with the default twentyten theme on it and decided it was worth a PR2...great, I guess?

Either way, it makes no difference to me.

Mainly just bragging rights really, that is if it is a domain you are trying to rank and monetize.

If you are selling domains then of course this will increase the value. Also if you have domains on high PR networks this could affect those too. Guess there will be networks out there buying up domains now!!

Completely agree with those saying PageRank now is not as important as it once was. Before it was seen as a value indicator of how well your website was trusted but now the algortihm's for search engines has just got that whole lot better.

The re-sale value however is good for the website for people who still regard this as important. From experience it does not increase your search engine rankings.

For those who are saying PR doesn't matter are posting here just for the sake of increasing their post count.. PR always matter and yep to a big extent.. I don't care whether you do agree or not but I am happy that I have the right concept.

lol you gotta love it when people are full of themselves!

PR just as a metric means nothing, combined with other factors gives you a good snap shot of what Google "thought" (past tense) of the webpage when they updated the Toolbar PR.

TrustRank is what you should be concerned with

Well, if you get PR5+ then it will be the time to party. PR3 isn't that hard to accomplish.
