Hi Warriors!!!

Whenever I ask this question, How to increase page rank for any website? the only answer I get from all around is "get relevant/quality do-follow backlinks" to your site.

Visit this website www(dot)hkgrox(dot)com, it got PR 3 but you see it's got only 4 backlinks as per Google. So my question is how is it possible? I mean only 4 backlinks and PR 3 seems quite irrelevant what seo experts usually tells you.

What are your opinion here, why this site got PR 3 with so less backlinks? Eager to see you response.

Back link is only one factors, there are so many other factor which also involve in page rank. Like your domain age, amount of visitors on your site etc etc.
So we can't say that just on the basis of back links Google assign PR.

Backlinks matter for the pagerank definitely. But page rank assigned not by just the backlinks but it consider many things more the pagerank. As mostly quality content , quality inbound links & less outbound links, less bounce rate and high conversion rate. So if one has the quality and useful content on the site and people have spend more time on that page, then google notice it and if google find it really meaningful then page can get the more benefit with the traffic and high rank both point of view. And remember one thing always that more backlinks does not mean the high pagerank.

My god it stinks in here. It must be all the bull**** flying around.

Content has nothing to do with pagerank. Nor does the number of visitors, nor does social signals, or any other silly crap you want to come up with.

Backlinks (internal and external) are the driving factor behind pagerank.

        Mike is right.

As far as pagerank is concerned *nothing* other than links matter because links (internal & external) are what pass pagerank.

Is pagerank relevant to rankings? Thats another discussion entirely. The answer is somewhere between "yes" and "no"

Second time in as many days that I've seen you have to post this.

Which, IMO, is sad. A lot of bad information being spread. Like I've said previously, we're all wrong from time to time, and we all have our own opinions. But I have no idea why people still think things like bounce rate, content, etc, have anything to do with PR.

Its is important but not the only thing that matters. Like others have said it is about content, backlinks, what google uses to judge your site, etc.

Thanks for pointing that out Mike and deepest apologies to JS again. I really botched that one. Seems I misread him twice then because I thought he objected to something else you said the same thing.

As you know by our recent PMs there are a few guys running around here trying to convince people (and sell their services) that PR is based on other things but I completely flubbed identifying JS as one of them.

Would you please PM me about your DoFollow Blog Pack #2 you are offering? I don't have enough posts to PM you here. I'm assuming that if you PM me, I can reply. :-)

Had a question on your offer.

          Thanks.

It has links from 128 domains. Yahoo explorer doesn't show all links. Try Magestic SEO and you will see the domain number.

Also, backlinks are the most important factor for Pagerank as Mike stated.

Page rank represents the reputation of the site, and this method determines the performance of the website through Google's algorithm. It is the foundation of your quality backlinks to get higher rankings.

100% Yes. It is Google's way to understand how popular your website is and backlinks are a good way to know the popularity for search engines.

This is because as Google is not showing up all the back links publically. One can check all links detail in his/her own account (for verified domains only).

Link juice(internal and external) is the sole factor for pagerank. Domain age, number of visitor, load time etc have nothing to do with pagerank

If it is the page rank (the green bar in the google toolbox) that you meant , it is only the back links that you need.

      You're asking the wrong question.

Not "Does backlinks really matters for Page Rank" but "Does PageRank even matter at all" and the answer to that question is no.

I can build 500,000 dofollow backlinks for keyword "Bob"

I'll get myself a PR7 or PR8 but that means nothing for my online business. On the contrary, I can have simple PR1 or PR2 sites ranking for some quite competitive keywords bringing me nice income.

PageRank means nothing. So long as you have PR1 or higher, you can consider your site valued by Google.

If you mean PageRank, the google product, it is really based
on nothing but backlinks. So of course it matters. It's all
that matters. Backlinks come in many flavors, from internal,
to link bait, to ones we may not even know of that are created
on the fly, but still look like backlinks.

Page rank, your position in google, can indeed be influenced
by backlinks. But relevancy and authority can trump this.

That's why amazon and wikipedia can be #1, with virtually
no backlinks to the page except internal.

Type in a unique sentence from this thread, voila! Number one
on google! No backlinks! But complete nonsense when talking
about real rankings for real sites for real searches. Take with
a grain of salt anyone who says they have no backlinks, no
PR, and yet rank #1. Shrug your shoulders and say, "So?"

Just don't mix up PageRank with page rank.

I have PR5, two weeks old, domain.

When you examine its backlinks the most you'll find is 14. In fact it has over 1,000,000 backlinks. However, your regular tools cant find them because they are masked.

PR is a function of backlinks, and nothing else. Just read Google's patent and skip the disinformation spread by those who treat SEO the same way they treat God.

I do have domains with very little backlinks and no internal linking, because they are just 1 single page with very little data, which have page rank.

    Hello,

Please keep in mind not all back links are traceable, so that website may have more than you can see. Back links are additionally not exactly the only thing that determines PR.

But if you asking do they really matter? They absolutely do! They help create authority for your website, which in turn will help boost your PR. (In short).

      Ok Thanks Warriors!!!

By reading all replies I can understand that you can't exact find the number of backlinks for any website, though backlinks are essential so keep working on white hat seo techniques to build quality backlinks for your site.

It means if Google is showing 4 backlinks for any site, it's tryting to mislead us and we should not believe on it. Right??

Not exactly. It doesn't have anything to do with Google trying to mislead you. Google is very open about not showing the public the backlinks of someone else's sites. They don;t believe its your business. On your own site inside webmaster tools they will show you a lot more OF YOUR OWN SITE.

PR has NO direct affect on ranking, HOWEVER, it does (IMHO) give great signals to the quality and authority of the website when building links. I would much rather be linked ona PR page than a nonPR page.
