Google adword puzzle - little help?

I'm testing a campaign in a niche market arena.

I took a sub-word - we'll call it "keyword". I then took that and went deep and created about 500 sub-sub keywords around that.

As soon as I did that, my CPM rocketed up. Especially on all the "City Name Keywords". On many words I'm the only one bidding - Google's own stats say I can have first postiion for .05 or .10.

Yet, when folks click, Google is hitting me $300 and $4.00 bucks a click -

Whats even weirder is that my click through rate on these keywords is running 25% to 50% with 100% conversion.

Even if Google dropped the price to a buck - I'd be happy.

What I haven't done is take "city keyword" and created a new adgroup and then created a new land page just for that -

The key word is in the ad headline - so I'm perplexed as to why I'm getting punished so bad with such a high click through rate.

Google has the quality score listed as a 7.

Ironically, my "10's" have the worst click through rate and worst conversion.

Anyway, any insight from the pro's here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

    Everything seems correct.
So you should put in a support request to Google Adwords Support and ask them what the problem might be.

Thanks Kirk, I'll try that - didn't know they were that open to helping out.

If you did that, I bet it would solve the problem. You need to localize the landing pages. The other thing you could do, which I am not sure you have done is list the cities in your landing page. If it finds the city name in your landing page it might let you off.

create a new adgroup for every keyword you want, place one keyword in it... wait for about 2-4 weeks, gain some account history, then slowly add more keywords related to that city, but try not to put too many in there, some say a max of 20, some put in more... I find putting just the one in there seems to do ok... with proper labeling of the adgroups and campaigns, knocking out 0.01 - 0.10 clicks.

      Thanks guys for the advice.

Looks like I need to create 100 plus landing pages on this campaign.

Any automation to help out with that yet that you know of?
