Hey guys,

It's not too often that I create theads on here, I usually lurk in the background soaking up the info and help others where I know I can add some value.

Hopefully this thread will spur others on. I just wanted to say thanks really. As of last week I am now averaging around £80 a day on AdSense which for me is amazing. When I started all this in August I was aiming for £20 a day by the end of the year, so i'm chuffed!

I've had to fight my way through 90% crap on this forum to find the valuable information and more importantly knowing who I can trust when it comes to taking advice.

A special thanks goes out to the below people that I can think of off the top of my head:
Yukon, Paulgl, InTheMaking, John Williamson, Mike Anthony, JSProjects

There are of course others, but these are the guys that constantly contribute very useful information, so makes sure you listen to what they say!

Once again, thanks for all your help since I started my IM journey! Oh, by the way, I didn't start IM in August, that was just my AdSense sites. I started about 6 months ago and have spent around £2k on my education. If there is any lesson to be learned here, it is that everyone can make good money online, and never give up!

      Hi guys,

Completely forgot i started this thread! To answer some of your queries:

      kind regards.
I have so far been doing the micro niche sites, literally 4 or 5 pages of content, althhough they are MFA sites, i make sure they provide value to the users. I only use one advert per page so it doesnt look spammy too.

Although I am now building an authority site with proper site which will prob end up with 50 or so pages.

As far as tips go, make sure you do your keyword research properly, this is where the money is to be made. Go for a term that has a lot of searches and is relatively easy to rank for. When it comes to backlinking, start slow and steadily increase the links coming in. Make sure to get a wide variety of links from different places. For example, web 2.0. articles, contextual homepage (the best) etc etc...

    Congrats!
On a side note, even i was doing $80-$120 a day before 14th October's panda update hit me and now i'm nowhere (Thanks to my other businesses & Affiliate Sites, that helped me recover from it.). So be careful and diversify as much as you can.

You don't really need to diversify, you just have to put in an effort into new/old sites. Panda just wiped the poor quality pages, they didn't bring an end to internet marketing. Sure, some high quality pages suffered a blow, but the algorithm is constantly improving. To be honest, I benefited from Panda, since it cleared the competition in a lot of niches.

Think of it as an opportunity, not a penalty

How does Google determine what is a poor quality page though? I watched that video today on seomoz which explained what Google is looking for post panda and it explains that having good unique content isn't enough because Google is looking for social signals. But certain sites have the kind of content which people don't tend to share and naturally link to, so how do people rank well with these type of sites?

That is exactly what happened to me on Oct 14th. I have been able to recover for the most part. The funny part was that my highest quality site was the one that got hit the most.

          Hey Mark,

Since 90% of that income is currently from 1 site I did the following:
          $10 - Domain
          $25 - Outsourcing Articles
$100 a month on link building

Although before making any money i previously spent around £2,000 buying ebooks, WSOs, software and everything else trying to learn stuff.

Yes, way too much - but when you are first starting out you buy stuff on the assumption that you will be learning information that is useful.

Only now that I know what I am doing do I realise that 80% or so of the crap that people sell about IM, is basically a load of fluff put together just so the seller can get a quick buck.

I feel sorry for new people that come here to try to learn something because the majority of information given out is just re-hashed rubbish that they got told by someone else etc...

I guess I would be considered old to be starting out in the Internet Marketing business but the first thing I looked for was someone who had goals and achieved them. I found that here and my congratulations to you James.

I have been in sales all my working life but have to agree that the amount of tripe I read about how to make money online is just staggering. What is even stranger is the amount of blind support that is offered on what could best be described as junk. If you supported ideas like that in my industry you would lose any credibility you had earned.

Like any business multiple streams of income is the way to go and building small targeted websites for Adsense is one of those and is now starting to work well for me. It is slow to begin with but I have improved with practise. It is also dreadfully boring but who said business had to be pretty. Build a small 5 page website with unique content around a long tail keyword and link to it slowly is what is working well for me.

I can now build one of these in an evening including the content and admin pages. Then over the next 14 days I build around 2 links each evening and it eventually ranks on the first page but patience is required. Some get great click through rates and others very few. On the low ctr I then move the ads around and watch what happens.

Online is like any business, it takes work and patience along with a tried and trusted method that you have to stick at. Certainly my biggest mistake when I first came online was the constant dancing from one thing to another. That is a recipe for disaster. Could you imagine in an offline business opening as a dentist one week, a grocer the next, a bookmaker the nest and so on. Yet in Internet Marketing world this seems to be the norm.

I am not at your income level yet James but I am trying hard and sticking to the plan so wish me luck.

Wow. Those are some pretty amazing numbers for 6 months. You have to rank 1st page for quite a lot of your content or some very high traffic keywords to hit those numbers.

I have tried to rely on quality content alone with some of my sites with only very minimal backlinking as directed in many "authority site" models but I have had limited success with that approach. I have pursued medium to low competion keywords but my pages still don't seem to rank well even after 6 months to a year regardless of how well written or informative they are.

I guess there is simply no way around backlinking unless you are targeting terms with uber low competition.

That's inspirational! It seems like a lot of people that make posts like this are usually just trying to up sell a WSO where they will provide you with a guide on how to make money. It's nice to see when someone actually has some success without trying to sell you something as-well.

I have to agree with you though. There is a lot of rehashed, undetailed, and even garbage information on the forum now. I spent almost a month on my first site, but I pretty much had everything wrong. I did my keyword research incorrectly, on page seo was wrong, and a lot of other small stuff. I didn't start again until I came across a follow me make a website thread or something like that (which was later deleted for being a follow me thread) by indamnation (spelling?).

It had a lot of good information that I mimicked for my 2nd site, and that site is number 9 for a decent keyword now. The only thing is that it is not getting any traffic yet, but it is more of a summer term, so I still have hope for it. My newest site is an Amazon Aff. site, and it was doing absolutely amazing for a week. Then it started doing the Google dance or it got pandafied/slapped, I can't tell yet lol.

At the moment I am down about $300-$350 dollars, but I am hopeful! It's just sucks having to dig through a river of mud to find that one golden nugget of information! It would be nice to know a few specialists lol.
