Okay please bear with me as I try to explain my issue.

Before you ask, my posts are getting indexed and they are 100% original. I checked using the "site: function"

Okay, so I have a bunch of posts that are indexed in Google, but they aren't ranking for my keyword. Instead, the homepage of my blog is getting indexed BEFORE the actual page.

So for example, I have a keyword "Brad pitt workout". However, the homepage of my blog will rank on page 5 of Google, while the actual post is nowhere to be found in the first 30 pages of Google.

I know something's not right. I'm pretty sure it's not normal for your homepage to rank before the actual page you targeted the keyword with.

Has anyone ever had an issue like this? If so, can you please help me. This is really frustrating me since I have all these great posts, but they can't even be found in Google.

Thanks

It is actually quite normal. It happens all the time and sorted out by itself without doing anything. How old is your site?

    I agree. It's normal.

Don't ever expect Google to respond in a certain way to your website. You will just get frustrated and more grey hair.

Just keep writing good, original content and keep backlinking to your site's root domain, as well as to individual pages.

A common reason for this is because your homepage has more authority than your new page (obviously) and when you make a new post on your blog that page and a snippet of the text appears on the homepage hence the fact that it's ranking for your target keyword. If you want to get the actual post page to rank higher you need to build some links to it.

Put content regularly, create few quality backlinks & wait for some time.

If you're really posting quality content then you'll be start ranking soon.

    All the best!

Thanks for the replies but I'm still not sure what to do. My site is 8 months old and it has been like this for certain keywords for the past 2 months.

And yes, I am building links towards those pages. Any thought?

I'm having the opposite issue on one of my sites. The root domain being ranked is the goal but when I add any new content it displays before the domain in the SERPS for a short time before disappearing.

From what I understand it's an age/authority thing. I've yet to find a solution but I figure time + consistent effort will fix it.
