Can't any subject be a niche? What I mean is by the time you research a subject far enough to find search terms you have a chance of ranking on the 1st page, you have basically found a niche within that subject. For example, "insurance" is a HUGE subject you could never rank for. However, by the time you got down to "life insurance companies in bakersfiled california" you might be able to rank on the first page. In short, isn't all about finding the keywords and not finding the subject?

The one thing I usually do is create a list of as many niche ideas that I can think of, no matter how targeted or broad they are. I'm talking a serious sized list, too. I also ask my family members and girlfriend what they like to buy and shop for or what their interests are. By the time I'm finished, I have a sizeable list of all sorts of niches, large and small.

Then, I take that same list and I plug it into either the Google Keyword Tool or Micro Niche Finder and drill down to more specific keyword phrases. From there, it's a matter of asessing the competition and profitability of a niche. That's all it takes, really.

Trust me - when you take yourself out of the equation and start asking others what they like to buy and discover their interests, you will find a variety of niches you would've NEVER thought of yourself. It's the best way to gather raw data in my opinion. Give it a shot and watch a bunch of new niche ideas come to life!

If you can't find 1,000 niches using these two resources then you are not cut out to be successful in this game. Stop wasting your time. There are literally a million possibilities in these two links. Good luck to you.

Google suggestions. Start with stuff you normally search for (like next time you are asking a question in Google, write it down and see what else pops up).

I started out using Micro Niche Finder, but now switched to Long Tail Pro... Find it easier to use and have better competition analysis features... In my opinion.

To find a low competition keyword you have you really dig deep into a niche... Try getting into a sub niche within a niche. Google suggests is a tool I often use to research topics, to find sub niches... Then use Long Tail Pro for further research and keyword analysis.

I second Market Samurai....it's an amazing tool. Go to Amazon or whatever site you like, make a list of 100+ possible niches, then use MS to dive into them and sort out the possible winners.

It takes time, but might as well spend the time researching rather than waste your time building a site that won't make any money!

I agree with SarahZT on this. What I always do is start out broad, and then narrow my search. Of course, I use my own software when doing this.

For Adsense niche and keyword ideas I like to start at sites like eBay and Amazon for 'buyer' keywords and then 'drill down' using Keyword Sniper Pro.
