By SERP tools do you mean competition analysis or rank tracking?

We used to use Market Samurai for all of this, but have switched to Long Tail Pro because of speed and reliability.

Market Samuari is good and so is SEOMoz but again you have to go pro to get the full functionality.

I am using both SEO Powersuite and Market Samurai, I like MS more because it much faster. I don't think they are very accurate, but most of the time they are close enough.

It depends of what kind of SERP tool you are talking about.

If you are talking about SERP analysis:
    - Market Samurai - but a little bit slow
    - Long tail pro - much quicker, allows you to research multiple KWs at a time and is doing domain check

If you are talking about SERP position tracking:
    - you can use Market Samurai, but since it is on you computer, you must have it running to do the work
    - you can use rank tracker from SEO Book as Firefox addon
    - you can use online services like Search engine rank tracker (SERP TRACKER) used by top SEOs - which is paid, but has 10 KWs for free.

And remember: your results might be different in different software, because there is not any one version of SERP results for any particular term. Why?
First of all if someone is logged in to Google account he will get personalized results, also Google knows your location so results will be different in different cities across the country.

Yes, these are both very important points. SERPs can change significantly based on who is searching and from where.

BTW, here is a free hosted SERPs checker that is pretty good for top level anaylsis.

I would like to invite you to try Seoette.com (clickable link in my signature) for your Google SERP results. I have tested my tool against other tools as well as manual searches and found it to be fairly accurate.

There are a few things to keep in mind when determining how accurate the tool is to your own searches. I would log out of Google or switch to Incognito or Private browsing so you have more accurate search results as Google will use your history to customize results. Also People from different area's see different results. Someone in New York might see different results as someone in LA. Just a thought.

For SEOette simply provide your website, at least 1 keyword and competitor to get started. Our tool will then run your report for a few minutes and return your results. On top of your keyword rankings you will be getting a full website analysis on certain items just as: HTML Validation, Burden Check, H1 Check, H2 Check, Doctype Check, Meta Description, Homepage Size, Google Analytics, IP Address Inspection, Malicious Software (Malware) giving you a pass/fail with an easy description of which each item is and its importance.

On top of this we also offer a backlink checker. Simply enter the URL of your backlink in to the tool, and it will check for page rank or the website, page rank of your backlink, and whether or not its follow or do follow. It will then update every week and inform you if the link is still live or not. This can be useful in checking whether a backlink being left on a website is actually reaching Google, and to see if this link stays active.

We also offer a Improvement section of our tool where we help you in the beginning stages of the SEO process then as mentioned above Tracking. We will also be adding a Learning section shortly with SEO, Internet Marketing quizzes.

If you're not checking a lot of keywords and don't mind doing a little manual labor, I'd suggest a Chrome "Incognito" window. Seems to give me pretty good results.

That said, I get varying results from time to time depending on the tools I use, so who knows which is the most accurate? I've tried to stop worrying about it so much.

If you're looking for accuracy then I'd recommend checking out our free (check signature for link) account. The incognito window isn't a bad move if you don't have a lot to check, but the HID aspect of it doesn't make it the same when it's compared to clean slate.

Here's why I recommend trying us out:
    Microsite Masters:
20th: Every ranking reported by MM is correct for Google, Yahoo, MSN
21sr: Every ranking reported by MM is correct for Google, Yahoo, MSN
22nd: Every ranking reported by MM is correct for Google, Yahoo, MSN
23rd: Every ranking reported by MM is correct for Google, Yahoo, MSN
24th: Every ranking reported by MM is correct for Google, Yahoo, MSN
25th: Every ranking reported by MM is correct for Google, Yahoo, MSN
26th: Every ranking reported by MM is correct for Yahoo, MSN. Google is off by 1 SERP position.

    SeScout:
20th: Every ranking reported by MM is correct for Google, Yahoo, MSN
21sr: MSN and Yahoo are off by 3. Google is off by 1.
22nd: MSN is correct, Yahoo is off by 5. Google is off by 2 positions
23rd: Every ranking reported by MM is correct for Google, Yahoo, MSN
24th: Every ranking reported by MM is correct for Google, Yahoo, MSN
25th: MSN is correct, but Yahoo is off by 5 again. Google is off by 1
26th: Google is off by 4, MSN and Yahoo are both correct.

    SEOMoz:
    20th: Not showing up
21sr: Not even showing a rank
    22nd: Not showing a rank
23rd: Showing up in Yahoo and MSN, but both are 10 positions off. Google is nowhere still
24th: Google is correct, but Yahoo and MSN are still off by 10.
25th: Google is not showing again and MSN is correct, but Yahoo is 5 off.
    26th: Not showing anywhere
But obviously it's all up to you. Incognito isn't bad if you just need to check a few.

Let us know what you end up using! I'd be interested in seeing what works out for you.
