Over a year old, great content, losing traffic

I have a number of adsense sites and most are between 12-18 months old. I am a believer in great content and add it regularly. However, I was wondering if it is possible to have "too much" content, even if it is good? My first couple of sites have over a hundred well done articles of 450-550 words each on them, but it seems lately the more articles I add the less traffic I get. I am totally white hat and personally build 10-15 backlinks a month for each site.
If this had happened for only a one or even two month period I wouldn't be that worried knowing google. However, they have gone steadily down in traffic for three months is a row though I keep adding good material and am doing nothing whatsoever different, so I am getting concerned. Has anyone else had the same problem?

Content is a small part of seo.

What else have you done for seo?

I agree, content is always going to be your number one tool when building sites. You do need to drive more backlinks which will equal traffic to your sites. I use a guy who is really good and have him working on one of my sites and has been able to rank the keywords I have his business working on, on either the first or second page in the last 3 weeks from not ranking at all. He doesn't blast the sites with backlinks, he drip feeds it, around 100 backlinks a day to the link he is targeting then he backlinks his backlinks. If you want more info shoot me a pm, he's pretty reasonably priced.

It took me a while to figure it out. But for consistent traffic you must continue to gather backlinks, especially if you're in a competitive industry.

I seriously doubt that it is "too much content".

I have some article directories with about 30,000 indexed articles and some of the articles rank number 1 for keywords with 1.5 billion competing results.

    Almost no SEO.

There is a lot more to it that most realize.

Odds are...you are dropping in ranking for some keywords you previously ranked for.

Sign up for statcounter and check the "recent keyword activity" link regularly.

You will start to see what is "really" going on with your traffic...

Hi. I have good content too at the moment [ had to clean a lot in my site, thanks to panda; Thereafter, the content quality has improved a lot tbh] but lost traffic due to panda. Did you see the recent seobook blog post:

This could be the answer. One solution i can think of is sending signals to google bots that resemble a brand's. For instance, links gained from most trusted or at least authority sites.

Of course, there must be other solutions. Hope others can pitch in.
Note: It seems like people who had sites with low quality links [as opposed to moderate to high quality links] were most affected by panda. Would you consider your links low quality?

Be sure that you have provided the best content in your site and that is helpful for people. As it is possible that the content in your view is good but not best for the visitor. So know what people like to read the most and then provide the unique and useful content to them. And use the social media also for promotion of your content and this way attract more people to your site and get more traffic.

Its good that your first priority is content but you need to make it available to your audience by some means. For that matter, you need backlinks. 10-15 backlinks in a month is certainly not a very good number.

Its better to bring link building in limelight. Also, try to drive some traffic from social media sites as well.

I thing the thread starter has already mentioned that he is indeed using white hat SEO techniques. Let me quote that part for you.

Anyway, I think you need to do a little bit more off-page SEO for your sites. Not to the point of blasting links to them, though. You could look at your competitors and see how exactly they're doing their link building.

100 articles is not going to get you huge traffic. You need several hundred or a thousand.

Backlinking can get you in trouble. If you cannot exactly mimic natural backlinking, you run the risk of getting penalized by Google. Then you're done. Start all over again.

There are huge news cites that do not buy backlinks. Their traffic is in the hundreds of thousands per day. They have 10,000 - 20,000 articles/pages.

Is it worth buying or building backlinks? Google is hitting these very hard. I doubt anyone will beat Google for very long.

Building backlinks is not white hat SEO. It is against Google's Webmaster Policy.

You should give more time to increase traffic. Build links in high PR niche blogs. Forum posting in niche forum is really effective to get targeted traffic.

Writing great and regular content is only half of the battle. The other half involves doing SEO and building backlinks to your websites. 10 - 15 backlinks a month per website was too little to get any effect in ranking.
