Wordpress Question: category name = post name

Hi all,

Has anyone observed any issues by having a naming a category the same as one of your other posts? I was thinking of expanding my site a bit more by adding content relevant to the keyword I am targeting.

Let's say for example it was fleece jackets. Right now I have an optimized post for fleece jackets with all of my products. Now I want to write a few more articles but store them in a fleece jackets category. My final structure would look as follows:

fleece-jackets/fleece-jackets.htm
fleece-jackets/article1.htm
fleece-jackets/article2.htm
fleece-jackets/article3.htm

    It depends how your permalinks are set up. If they are "/%postname%/", and you have nothing under the category tag, then yes, it will be a duplicate, but wordpress should rename one of the links.

    Just test it out ... you can always delete either the category or post if something breaks.

      Is there any issue with having a URL like this? http://sitename.com/fleece-jackets/fleece-jackets.htm (i.e. same category/post name)

        As far as Google & seo goes it's not a problem.

        It doesn't matter to Google because these two URLs are not the same:
        • hxxp://sitename.com/fleece-jackets/
        • hxxp://sitename.com/fleece-jackets/fleece-jackets.htm


        Your traffic might be a bit confused why you named both pages/URLs the same.

        This would be a better option IMO:

        • hxxp://sitename.com/fleece-jackets/
          • hxxp://sitename.com/fleece-jackets/blue-fleece-jackets.htm
          • hxxp://sitename.com/fleece-jackets/red-fleece-jackets.htm
          • hxxp://sitename.com/fleece-jackets/green-fleece-jackets.htm
          • hxxp://sitename.com/fleece-jackets/black-fleece-jackets.htm
          • hxxp://sitename.com/fleece-jackets/purple-fleece-jackets.htm

          Thank you, this helps a lot. The only issue I have is I also wanted to have an optimized post for fleece jackets (for example). So is it ok to use fleece-jackets\fleece-jackes.htm?

          Is it possible to get a URL structure to look like the this?

          The above is done by using the permalinks category+postname i presume, but if that's the case then you will not get this:
          hxxp://sitename.com/fleece-jackets
          you will get a horrible looking:
          hxxp://sitename.com/category/fleece-jackets

    I wouldn't think so, its just a URL structure that most people wouldn't choose. It looks a little spammy seeing the same words multiple times over.

    People dont look at the url of sub pages / posts so I say go for it. I use the same sort of URL structure for one of my sites and it ranks really well because the keyword is in the URL.

    Id say not to put it in too much, once is enough.
