How Come all these Clicks are Free?

I am helping with a campaign for a friend who was paying $1.50 per click.

When we worked out the conversion rate it was costing more to convert than she was making so we paused the campaign while planning what to do next.

This was the only campaign that she had active.

When we checked the Google Analytics today (to see the effect of pausing the campaign) I see that although Google Adwords has not billed anything for the period since pausing the campaign (and shows zero clicks) Google Analytics shows that 31 clicks were made via Google PPC over the week.

Now I'm all for getting 31 free clicks (especially when they normally cost so much) but how could that happen?

Our only thoughts are that people have a tab or screen open for a few days and then click on the ads even though they are paused. This could be the case but it seems a remarkably high proportion. (Normal click rates were 80 to 90 in a week)

Can anyone shed any light on the mystery?

Thanks

Janice

I think there is probably a delay in the adwords system.
Believe me Google will find out sooner or later, they always do.
If they dont, you are the luckiest person on the planet!

It's a bomb clicks and the same thing happening with adsense... You are not charge because there is no earnings on clicks as well..

Google doesn't stop (or start) showing ads immediately after you change something in your account. Changes appear on their search partners (other websites) as long as a day or so later. So in the meantime, you've asked to pause the campaign, but the ads are still running... Google doesn't bill you, but you still get a few lingering clicks until everything syncs up with your pause.

Thanks Dan, that may be the case because she did have the ads running on search partners and content sites as well as Google search itself.

Almost tempting to switch the ads on and off
