Cant Rank A Site For An Easy Keyword - Why?

Hello,

I hadnt any problems ranking websites for easy, mid or different keywords so far.

But I lately got a website for a client whose keyword is "keyword + city".
Competition based on backlinks is easy but although I did my onpage and offpage seo to it, even after 1,5 months its nowhere!

He also told me that he was ranked naturally on the google map listings but strangely disappeared after a certain time.

could it be that Google, whysoever, penalized this site and no seo can revive it?
maybe the source code contains some errors?

the site is using the shop system OXID.

Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

Nobody could even guess as to the cause of this without seeing the keyword and website.

Don't believe all that garbage too much. For every person who comes to Warrior Forum to start a thread and whine about their rankings drop, just remember there is someone else who just took their ranking and is quite happy.

That is just silly, and especially for a business client. They most likely have the message on their website that they want and need. Don't just go rewriting stuff because you have no idea why their site is not ranking.

This is your problem. You are building garbage backlinks. That is why the site is not ranking. Mystery solved.

It's Google Dance... my site went to 11 then no rank for a week or two and then came back . Other sites seem to be doing similarly... Happens to all the new sites.

If its a new site, it could be google's playing with you...if its not a new one, you may have to dig deeper! check if the backlinks are indexed! And you can't get help without revealing the website and keywords!

check he hasnt been de-indexed - also if you lots the map ranking - check you havnt changed the site - it helps to have the address written on every page etc. also - you should make sure the business is submited into the google business listings. then id just say keep building backlinks make sure they are quality and not spammed. then you should get your rankings back - maybe the term is more competitive than you think? or its just taking a lil longer it can happen sometimes - just focus on creating those links and also check all the on-page factors it should pan out just fine!

If your site is new, the most probable reason could be the sandbox effect. If this is so then you have to wait for couple of months before it reappears in search results.

Like many here, my first gut instinct was that the site had either been deindexed...or maybe had been deindexed in the past when someone else owned the domain.

You can check the way back machine (do a Google search) to see the history of a domain name and see if others have owned it and had sites on it in the distant past.

I'd look there to start...right after you run a site:domain.com search at google to see if the site has been deindexed.

Sites that have been deindexed in the past when owned by other people can be a huge pain to get back in the index...if this turns out to be the case I would file a reconsideration request at Google and let them know a new owner controls the domain.

      Best,

      -John

Wrong! SB backlinks have become more important now after the update. And article backlinks are not garbage. Moreover, I told that it is an easy keyword! Mystery is still active.

Wait, SB backlinks? Social bookmark? Nevermind. I thought you meant Scrapebox backlinks.

Social bookmark backlinks are ok, but they hold very, very little ranking power, especially on a fairly new site.

And article backlinks are garbage. Not sure who told you otherwise, but they are just a bunch of PR n/a or PR 0 backlinks. No value there.

It could be your backlinking strategy has now diluted his local SEO rankings causing him to disappear from Google Places (Maps) and localized searches.

Optimizing a site and backlinking strategy to rank highly for a local market is much different than general SEO for global results. Are you creating citations? Are you using authority sites for his locale? Does he have backlinks from businesses in his area?
