I'm using backlinkwatch.com and free version ahrefs.com now, not bad so far. And I'm still looking forward to bluebacklink's return, that's my favorite backlink check tool.

What about MajesticSEO? They've got the most comprehensive index of the web outside of search engines, from what I understand.

I've used their free service, and it's actually pretty helpful for being free. Measures stuff like link count, link velocity, historic link velocity, and they have their own authority rating system for links. Tons of other cool stuff, too, definitely worth checking out for anyone looking for a YSI alternative.

I think SEOMOZ's "open site explorer" is missing in the list which best among all.

yeah backlinkwatch is a killer tool and I have used it alot since yahoo's service went down. MajesticSeo is another one that I've used in the past and is also very good. If you search backlink checker you can find some free ones as well....you need to try them first on one of your own pages to see if the links are accurate too.

Thanks for the post. The first 3 tools I wasn't aware of and will look into. I've already started using ranktracker. I would suggest seoelite also, but it does require a one time payment, but it is pretty effective at picking up backlinks.

I'm finding that using the "link:" operator in front of the URL's I'm checking still brings up a pretty good amount. Though you kind of have to do it on a large scale.

Importing 100 URL's into the Scrapebox harvester and adding "link:" in front of them will give you PLENTY of backlinks to explore.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to

Don't know, will it be effective after closing yahoo site explorer, but think that famous seoquake tool must be added to the list. Hope that guys will find the solution, how to replace Yahoo site explorer data in their plugin.

    Here is my list:
    1. SEO Spy Glass
    2. https://ahrefs.com/
    3. Open Site Explorer
    4. Majestic SEO : Site Explorer
    5. Please Login
    6. Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch

The only ones that are paid in here are SEO Spy Glass (although highly worth it since it's software that runs on your computer), and Keyword Canine -> Which isn't only a backlink analysis tool but also an amazing keyword research tool. Unfortunately this isn't open all the time.

    Hope this helps!
