In computer society, it is a place where one can play around in before
trying things out in the real world. Google has quite a few of these
      sandboxes.

But if they had a sandbox for your site to punish it, it makes no logical
sense. But people toss out logic and reality, because they just
know that their site is the best, has always been the best, and
gosh darn it, MUST always be the best. So, google must be
      purposely putting them down.

First of all, google could care less about 99.99999999999% of
the webmasters. They don't care about you personally. For
them to single you out, they must care about you. They don't.
      Get over yourself.

Second, the sandbox myth falls apart on so many levels. Let's
say you were #5, now #50. Uh Oh! Sandbox!

So if there are, let's say, 25,000 results for your search, then
google has put 24,950 sites in the sandbox? What does that
say about site in position #100? That they are the double-
secret sandbox? How about #500? Man that site is REALLY
      covered in sand!

What position is the first position in the sandbox? Find that
number, and google might as well only show that many results.
after all, they are penalizing you, right? So if you drop to
#50, and that's a sandbox, then google should only show
      49 results.

You can't have it both ways. You can't say that your site in
#50 is in a sandbox, but site #100 isn't. That would make no
sense and really toss the idea of a sandbox.

And the final kicker, is that new sites by the millions come online
      daily.

Let's say you make a site about keyphrase-A. And you kick
butt on it, work hard, and it makes it to #1. Now the previous
#1 is going to scream penalty?!?! What penalty?

What happens if 20 webmasters do the same thing. Now that
former #1 site is in #21. UH OH! He's been sandboxed!!!!!!

Search results are not static. They are dynamic. New websites
MUST be given a shot at SERPs.

If the sandbox were real, and penalties like these were real,
then you would never, ever, ever, be able to get a new site
in the top 10 without those sites suffering the sandbox or
other penalty. And what if they never suffer the sandbox?
According the myth believers, you could never take a new
site to the top in a million years. You would be praying that
      they suffer some penalty.

In fact, one could never take any site to new levels unless
the sites above are suffering a penalty.

Basically: it is the "place" where your website goes if it is punished for unnatural behavior such as excessive backlinking.

    That place is page 10+

To be honest i used to believe all the crap about a 'sandbox', though these days i'm not so sure. It seems that when most people feel they are in the sandbox, they're actually just doing an epic Google dance. I've had it happen to many of my sites now where it would be happily ranking 1st on the 1st page, then suddenly will disappear to 500+ and usually returns within a month.

The longest i've had to wait for the rankings to return was 5 weeks, but it came back which is what we want. Just ensure that you keep building backlinks during this period and you'll come out on top 9 times of 10 that this happens.

    Simple.

Sandbox is nothing but a rumor! Though, if you build toooooo many links to your money site in a reaaallllyyyy short period of time, Google will get your site, and won't give you further rankings for exactly 30 days.
