Our project for now is new website wich will be active in one country only.. selling services and advertizing ... how important is it to get a local domain examples if the website will active in the UK to get DOMAIN.COM.UK ?vs getting just a plain TLD .com

1)any effect on SEO ?
2)any effect on SERP

What are the advantages of using a regional domain name .. i have never thought of is up until now that we are facing this issue ..

With a regional domain, it'll be easier to rank for the local Google pages, but with proper SEO work, you can reach top positions with a general .com as well for local searches.

Choose the one that'd be more fitting to your business, and in a customer's point of view, would be more appealing.

To rank well in a specific country it is better to have links from the country specific top level domains. Hosting within that country also helps.

Kithara: Rather than focusing on the domain name, focus on the geo-source of incoming links.

We have made this exact experiment and although co.uk ranked FASTER (ranked in the top10 much faster) eventually the .com ranked higher and better (with the same number of quality backlinks to both and roughly the same amount of quality content on both).

PLUS : Keep in mind that co.uk will rank purely in the UK, where as the .com will rank for the kw everywhere else as well.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Sincerely, Buyseech

Thanks guys got some very useful input ... in my country there are many restrictions on getting generic words as domains ..so am having trouble getting the names i need.. so i might eventualy screw them and get a .com instead ..

The way i saw it.. was that a .com.uk domain would appear more friendly and safe to people from the uk but i was unaware if any significant difficulty's i might encounter later on while trying to rank well localy..

In my opinion and from my experience i can tell you that .com domains are ranking best even in the specified countries com domains have high priority in ranking, it's my opinion.

This gives me an idea.. maybe we should have a poll.. and see the results from people that have used both .com and regional domains .. and bust this myth once and for all ..

no effect on seo or serp.
it's only on people' choice. and KEYBOARD.
Instead of typing domain.xxx, i type domain , and hold CTRL , press Enter

If your site sells a service only available in one country then you definitely should use TLD with that countries extension i.e. for UK use yourdomain.co.uk

With the same amount of backlinks etc a .co.uk site will always rank better on google.co.uk than a .com site.

With google developing local search more and more this is an important decision to get right.

Not sure if you are missing something. Country extension
matters and matters a lot. A keyboard is not a search engine, so
there is no seo or serp.

.com, btw, is default for US, like .net, .org.

If you want to rank in the UK, you certainly should start with
a .co.uk, and/or a website that has its server in the UK.

Google pays a lot of attention to server location.

As far as no .co.uk ranking anywhere else, I wish people
would either think logically or do research.

Other country extensions rank quite well in the United States.

sxc.hu ranks very high for its niche. Very, very high. In
fact, that's the only site I use for free images.

In fact, what's funny in this .co.uk not ranking anywhere
else, another BIG free image site is freeimages.co.uk and
ranks quite well in the US.

I'll bet a ton of .ca, .co.uk, etc. are being found in SERPs in
the US due to The Queen.

Relevancy pays a huge part, at least in the United States.

Other countries, when using the google for that country, the
      reverse is not necessarily true.

And of course we must mention that many country TLDs have
been turned over to the general public. The countries that
have not, country extension is even more important.

Regional TLD plays a big role in the Google rankings.

    .de for germany

    .uk for uk

    .ie for ireland

    etc...

If you want to rank your site locally then go for .uk or if you want to rank it in global search then go for .com.
