Do I need a privacy policy?

I'm very unclear on this. I've been making money from adsense for the past 3 months and haven't put up a privacy policy.

Will I get penalized in any way for not having one?

Is their any direct benefit from having one?

Thanks.

You don't necessarily need one and no, I doubt you'll get penalized in any way for it.. It's mainly there for people who come to your website or some just add it in for an extra page

      Wrong.

He needs one, otherwise he might get his Adsense account terminated.

      OP, get one asap.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

Yes for adsense, I would get a standardised one and modify it for your own purposes.

I would put one up and google provides text for you to use.

Thing is, I am not sure one will get banned now just because
of that. It's a very low, low level offense. Not one that
google cared much for in the past. Just my opinion.
People get banned for click fraud, bogus traffic, etc.

Anyway, it's pretty close to a moot point now anyway.

Because of lawyers, lawsuits, and politicians, statewide,
google and all the rest of the reputable content display
ad businesses have now started using a built in privacy
policy. It's that "Ad Choices" button google and yahoo
          use in their ads.

Google could not in a million years guarantee that all
sites had one. And certainly youtube and blogspot have
built-in privacy policies too, garnered from the main
          site.

So yes, slap one up, but it won't keep you from getting
banned. Nor, IMHO, lack of one cause you to get banned.

Yes, I am all for following adsense TOS, but this one morphed
as others have. Google has just not come out and stated it.
Plus, I do believe there are still some image/media ads that do not
          have the ad choices buttons.

          Be safe.

Its always a good idea to explain to your traffic what you plan to do with the data you gather while they visit / click through / sign up / buy anything from your website.

If you're displaying Adsense ads, you actually need an acceptable privacy policy: https://support.google.com/adsense/b...n&answer=48182
AdSense publishers must have and abide by a privacy policy that discloses that third parties may be placing and reading cookies on your users' browsers, or using web beacons to collect information as a result of ad serving on your website.

I have actually seen quality scores rise after a privacy policy was added to a landing page running PPC on Adwords.
