If your new to self hosted websites, Hostgator is an awesome choice.

Test out their 24/7 live support for free before you buy, that's what won me over.

I was asking questions for about 2 days before I ever payed a penny, when I first started out a few years ago.

Hostgator also has a lot of self help video tutorials for free.

Hostgator is a very good business considering how low their prices are.

Buy your domain at namecheap.com, it's a lot cheaper than Hostgator domains.

I think Bluehost is better. My Bluehost works well all the time.

I know a lot of folks use hostgator. I've used both but must say I prefer bluehost - their very reliable and offer exceptional customer support.

There's pretty much no difference between BlueHost and Hostgator when it comes to being "noob friendly".

They both use cPanel, Fantasico/Simple Scripts and 24 hour help desk.

I have both Bluehost and Hostgator accounts and prefer Hostgator by a small margin as their uptime is better than Bluehost and their support is a little better.

Hostgator is pretty consisten and always up. I heard they had a mix up this year, but that should not be normal.

I personally prefer HawkHost for clients, besides being reliable they are priced economically.

I'm pretty sure bluehost and hostgator are owned by the same company. So in terms of which one is more "user friendly" its probably the same. Cpanel hosting is Cpanel hosting. If that's what you're going for anyways.

I've been using Hostgator for years and can say they have an excellent support desk always ready to sort out problems or give advice.

I am with hostmonster currently (sister company of bluehost).

AWFUL service - intermittently the whole node grinds to a halt and you cannot access C-Panel or any of your sites. I have been onto support over five times now and just can't be bothered anymore.

I am still in the first 30 days so after Christmas I am opening a hostgator account and migrating over.

Hostgator is always the best Webhosting service. You can read real user reviews of hostgator hosting here: Hostgator.

I love hostgator. In the past I also used byethost.com, but they're just not as polished and professional as hostgator. I also like the flexibility that I get at hsotgator to use more advanced and automated features.

another vote for Hostgator here...been with them for 6 years, zero downtime and 24/7 customer service world wide. And when you talk to customer service they take care of the problem then and there.

I've been completely satisfied with bluehost. And if you're new, you'll probably find all their cpanel stuff easier to navigate than hostgator. I made the switch last year from hostgator to bluehost. It's cheaper, easier to work with, and the support at bluehost rocks. They've dug me out of some real jams while still cracking jokes with me the whole time. I know I'm staying put.

I don't think you will ever go wrong with Hostgator.

They also have a good affiliate program. Sell a couple
of memberships and you will have hosting for free.

I'd highly suggest you take a quarter....say Hostgator is heads, BlueHost is tails...whichever comes up on your flip just go with them. Since you narrowed it down to two premier choices the biggest thing is to just jump in and get started.

They are two of the best hosting companies around. You will do fine with either one.

I am using Hostgator at the moment for most of my sites, with a second account at WarriorHost.net, but have dealt with BlueHost many times for clients and always found them to be great, too.

I have used Bluehost for a few years now, and am very happy with the service/uptime and the support has always been fantastic (not that I've needed it much).

I was wondering about the difference in the affiliate programs, I know an awful lot of marketers recommend hostgator using their affiliate link.
I had a look and I didn't see any difference between Bluehost and Hostgator, it just looked like pretty much $50 per referral.

I was under the impression that at some point Hostgator did a recurring commission for the referrals you provide, but I may be mistaken, I can't see any reference to that now anyway.

Any info would be appreciated, I'm wondering if I'm totally off track and am thinking about Aweber recurring commissions?? lol

      Thanks
      Michelle
