Hi,

I have a paid membership site on wordpress where I have all my content locked without logging in (with your paid memberhsip info). I am using buddypress integrated with s2Member to lock everything up.

How does google see my site? Can I make a ton of backlinks and seo my site or would it be all for nothing? My main page is basically a sales video with a little text.

Augie

If the pages can't be crawled by Google because they are locked, then there is no point in doing SEO for those locked pages.

As far as the video page, you could add a transcript below the video just like Youtube does, so that traffic has to click a button to show the text, just so the text doesn't clutter the video page. If done correctly Google will read that text, might help that video page in the SERPs.

Youd be better of creating sites about your product, ranking them, and then linking people to your product.

Your membership plugin might allow you to show content snippets, in which case you'd have something for google to pickup.

Ok thanks, I think I will create an additional blog and seo that up and link to my membership site.

I like the idea about the youtube description too, but the keyword I want to rank for wouldn't work well in my sales copy.

You don't have to create a new blog, just create new pages & don't lock them. Then SEO the unlocked pages.

Try directing links to your pages which contain texts and materials that can get crawled by search engines and accessed by net audience at the same time. Locked sections of websites which are not easy to reach cannot actually get optimized that much, even if you acquire some of the best links packages, Google will not be able to examine the data to give decent ranks to them. Addition of a blog to your site seems to be a good idea, do not forget to build links for pages.

Write some articles which are informative and clearly explain what ranges of materials can be found listed and published on your site, then build links with the accurate anchors and point them at those pages, not necessarily your homepage and wait for some time. Since SEO is a long-term process, so even after gathering some strong one-way links you may need to remain patient for some time like weeks or a couple of months before your organic web ranks and traffic shares improve.

No problem if you have locked content. But make sure you also have many unlock contect to make them appear in google. Google just follow the unlock content.
