My client wants to rank high for nearby zip codes outside of his main zip code. Roughly 10 miles outside of his main zip code. What are some things I can do to get him ranked in Google local for this situation?

currently we purchase post office boxes for different cities and then setup places for specific cities. we make sure each new city has

    its own web address
    its own phone number
    its own address

Good idea however I am working for a client and they aren't going to do that. I was hoping there was something that could be done SEO wise?

If it's the same CITY, just a few miles away, you might have a chance...but if it's a completely different town it'll be a bit difficult.

Using Orange County CA as an example, Why would google maps/local let you rank in the top 7-10 listings for "Irvine Dentist", when you're in Costa Mesa. Yes, It's only 10 miles away...but Costa Mesa has it's OWN dentists that will be filling those listings.

If you're looking at a large METRO Area, this might be different.

Another example, Ranking in the top 10 for "Miami Plumber" might be doable if you're in a city/town just outside of Miami that maybe does NOT have many plumbers. I've done that before, but again - it was for a large metro area AND for a niche/business type that his own city did not have many of.

Try suggesting it to the client, the process takes a little longer to setup but the results are lasting long term for our clients and they are ranking well in multiple cities.
