Hi, I'm a Brit expat living in Bangkok and just started doing some SEO.

I'm going after niche markets in the US, and I have two websites up and running. I just have a question on how do I get on the usa google Search Engine?

I added my site to google in bangkok and I'm worried that my site is only on google for the Asian search rankings on google
.
Does anyone know who I can submit my site to turn up on usa google searches and how do I know that it's on the usa google Seach Engine?

Many thanks in advance!

    My pleasure Markus.

How is it in Bangkok to live? I am also from UK and currently in Kuala Lumpur. Been here for 5 years now and 1 year in Singapore before this. Thinking of a move in the next year and weighing up my options.

Have heard Bangkok is a bit crazy to live in but would be interested to hear from someone who is there now rather than someone who was there in years past.

You can also set your site to appear in US SERPS by using google webmasters tools, check this out.

    Hey Brian!

I was in SG for 6 years and in KL for 1.
I find BKK a bit hectic, but it's been quite an experience, I've enjoyed it.
If things go well with SEO, I'm planning to move to Koh Samui, for the laid back life.

Had a hard time sorting out my visa in KL, but SG was easy, I started a one dollar company lol
As for Thailand it's harder to sort out a (longterm) Visa, I find myself going on visa-runs a lot, but if you overstay your visa, it's never a problem, they'll just give you a small fine.
I've noticed things here are either the same price as KL or cheaper, especially property, cigarettes, alcohol etc

You should give BKK a try, change can be good

    Cheers!

Another option might be Indonesia as I am marrying a lovely lady from Sumatra. But to be honest I hate Jakarta. The traffic makes life horrible and it's a bit of a dump.

Had the opposite problem with visas. No problem in KL but 2 visa's rejected in Singapore. Partly because the paperwork was submitted incorrectly by our admin girl.

Been to Phuket, Krabi, Pattaya (won't be going there again) and BK a few times but only passing through.

    He there

Biggest thing i have always stuck to is:

    1. get a .com domain
    2. host it in the US so the sites files are in the country you want to rank for
    3. get backlinks from sites that have the above 2 points

Works well for ranking in any country!
    Cheers

    Hey Mark,
I am a US citizen living right next door in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I have been living in Asia for about the past 3 years and hope I never have to return home. Visa is not an issue in Cambodia and the place is pretty cheap for the most part. I have thought about moving to Thailand, but the visa issues give me pause.

With respect to your question, if your website is hosted on a server in the US, you should be fine. If it is hosted in another country, use the geographic target option in Google Webmaster Tools.

    Hi Bambu,

I went on my GWT and saw that geographic target was not set, and I changed it.

    Thanks for the advice

Try to get more backinks from the USA region then see the SERP.

Well, this is pretty simple, just try and work in the .com domains that are more and more US based. Like forums, blogs, Article Sites, Press Release sites etc, If you want to focus just a country specific site then you should try to work on the sites that are originating from the local country. Otherwise just keep on working you will get your site ranked in Google .com in few months/years time (depending on how competitive the niche is!)

Thanks guys for all the advice, I've finally sorted it out and found some of my sites on the USA SE already.

As for some of my other sites, I changed some of the meta-tags/keywords and they have yet to appear on the USA SE.

Does anyone know how long google takes to "register" new tags for sites, or do I have to wait for the next PR update for my site to appear in the SERP under the new keywords?

      Many thanks in advance!

Yeah Google Webmaster Tools is the best way to set location, but to be honest they are usually pretty accurate at automatically choosing the best geographic location for a site.

Off topic, just curious: Lol, why are so many internet marketers, especially the young ones drawn to Asia, is it the low cost of living? Women? Lol. I am tempted as well if that is the case.

A bit of everything! I think the cost of living is certainly less than here in US and the food is excellent. As far as working is concerned the labor is dirt cheap and with great conversions of Dollar into the local currency!

WOMEN.. well do i really need to say anything about Asian women.. we all are HUGE fans already!

        That's all true.

However the main reason I came to asia was because of ageism in UK. I was a salesman, and top in the region, beat every target well inside the time frames given. Yet kept getting passed over for people who were older. (at the time i was 26, 5 years ago)

Then a ridiculous event with our Area manager pushed me one step too far and when someone offered me a job out in Singapore I jumped at the chance! Tax free earnings, the chance to progress and get paid more, lovely ladies and awesome weather.

Moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and things are even cheaper, the ladies are even more lovely, the cost of living is low, I used to live in a "2 up, 2 down" terraced house in UK. Here for less money that that i now have a 3 bed, 3 bath, very large condo with a balcony overlooking the Petronas Twin Towers, a pool, gym and squash court.

Pay about 5% income tax and loving it. Best move I ever made and now soon to be married to my lovely lady from Sumatra, Indonesia.

Good to know you start SEO

As forum members are give ways to add your website to google us.

    Now!!!

For ranking on google US market. You need to target your keywords for google.com. Ranking on google.com is a difficult thing to do. First is domain name, if your website domains are on .com then you have a good chance of ranking on google.com. After that you need to get backlinks from .com website. If you get quality backlinks from .com websites then surly you will get ranking.

    Hi, Mark
I'm from Indonesia and I use a USA server hosting. Have no trouble to rank my sites in Google, but I don't use google.co.id....it's google.com. Been told (not by an expert FYI, so just take it as a rumor ) that if you want some international traffic, better use USA server hosting.

to all warriors who curious about Indonesia, yeah if you live there the cost of living is rather cheaper. You can live lavish here with only salary around $1600 - $3000 a month - and becoming IM'er will be ideal University fresh graduates usually get $95 - $150 their first month, and salary $500/month is considered big. Jakarta indeed sucks as hell, I hate being there too LOL, except for trendy shopping.

There are lots of other parts of Indonesia which are very nice. Jakarta just suck because it's so big and badly planned so traffic jams and flooded roads cause havoc.

I'm a big fan of Lake Toba and also Bandung is quite a nice alternative to Jakarta which is still close enough that you can get to the capital if you really want to.
