Google slap or Google dance? Can you tell the difference?

Hi folks,

I have a 7 month old blog, myfishingcapecod, that had been ranking pretty well, on page 2-3 in Google for my top keywords.

2 weeks ago I added a membership section to the blog and accidentally restricted some of my most popular pages. After realizing the serious impact this could have on my rankings, I reopened those pages a few days later after receiving some good advice from members of this forum.

4 weeks ago I began implementing "Build My Rank" into my SEO campaign. Initially I saw some great results.

Two months ago I began to beef up my SEO campaign by creating new blogs, web 2.0's and using Unique Article Wizard.

I had been seeing awesome movement in the ranks until last week, when I started going down for ALL of my keywords. Right now I am buried in Google, past page 100 for my keywords.

The good news is that I am most certainly still indexed in Google.

I'm relatively new with internet marketing, so I wanted to ask if there is a a way of knowing whether this is the Google Dance and nothing to worry about, or if I was just slapped by Google.

If I was slapped I'd obviously love to figure out why to avoid the penalty in the future.

Thanks!

Ryan

It's pertty hard to tell and from what you have been doing in your SEO effortd it shouldn't be a slap. Only time will tell. If you get back up in a couple of weeks its probably a dance but if you stay for a prolonged period it might be the slap.

  • The way to tell is to type your entire domain name into the search box. If you don't get any results, then your site has been deindexed and you have been slapped!

Really!! How do you know Google has slapped him

To the OP, I had the exact same thing happen to me with both of my sites. each was about 7 -8 months old and all original content. 2 months later and my sites are still out of the top 100 for all keywords. All pages are indexed and trying to find an answer to this problem is a bloody nightmare. I have tried to get them back with quality links but still no joy.

The only thing i can make out of this is that my websites are going through a very long waltz at the moment and even though it's hard to get motivated to persist with adding content to these sites and keep building backlinks, i don't think there is anything else to do.

Prior to my smack to the back of the serps i had been messing with a few new themes for the websites so i have to take that into consideration. The only recommendation i can give you is that if your sites are still indexed then there's a good chance you can get them back on track with quality links and fresh content.

If it's a slap, you will find google deindex your pages. using "site:yourdomain.com" to check. A lot of pages or even all pages are removed from the results.

If it's a dance, just no ranking, all pages are still indexed.
