    Interesting article, thanks fir sharing

I think they have a fair point. Imho google will move more and more into socially influenced search results. There has been some testing done showing that social signals are already being used, at the very least, to validate traditional link signals.

I don't think that a few hundred likes or +1's will make a site rank better though...unless they are backed up by an authoritative person in your space?

I reckon things like membership of Google+ circles will define authority too. G will know who has blessed a page or post, who deems it to be worth reporting, sharing or +1'ing. That authority will be a ranking factor very hard to manipulate. Good news for google of course as their results in theory improve.

I also think that a page that appears to have many inbound links and is relatively young but which has earned no social signals will look dodgy in Googles eyes.

I'm basing the above on no real evidence though lol. Just my thoughts (this week)

The changes are likely to renew persistent criticism that Google promotes content from its own services, like maps, reviews, YouTube and, now, Google+ ahead of those of rivals. Gomes said that Google is simply trying to make its search engine more useful.
Seems like Google is promoting own content more and more. In my opinion a search engine should be unbiased. They are losing focus on what they do best by trying to compete with Facebook. I keep saying, Google is a search engine not a social engine, that's why people use it.

They need to K.I.S.S and get back to basics. Improve what they already have.
