A four month old WP blog site just is not doing as well as I thought it should be doing at this point. I have SEO pressor, all-in-one seo so I think that I am pretty good with the on-page. I understand Google indexes pages not posts so I am working the keywords as well as possible. I write 4-5 articles a week and they are being submitted to the top directories, etc. Doing videos with URL in video.

I have the 40-day challenge e-book and saw a spike in traffic but it is stagnent and really pretty low. I am doing off-site backlinking every day.

I bought a very expensive SEO course and regret it!!!! I'm sure it is good, but I am frustrated with the time aspect and the fact that this course wants me to buy this, that and more for off-page backlinking. 1K for the course. The want me to buy tools, tools and more tools is breaking my bank! I don't have time for the technical stuff when I need to be creating articles etc, etc.

I remember when I first started internet marketing in 1998 when we simply needed to work on keywords, meta tags, description. What this course is outlining is necessary to generate traffic is CRAZY! This is not your father's internet marketing.

Enough rant, that's my problem. So the question is, am I being jacked around and it really isn't this hard?? This course is a year long! Another question is...Any suggestions to try to increase traffic?
#increase blog traffic #stinks #traffic

1k seo course? Unless its face to face you got ripped, plus it sounds full of upsells/affiliate sales as well!

Seo isnt really that hard. Whats the ballpark stats for what your trying to rank (eg [exact] monthly search volume, top 10 competition, broad niche)? If you have monitoring software, what type and what does it have to say about the difficulty (eg traffic travis will say 'medium difficult' 'easy' etc)

Most of the keywords i see people spending months building crappy links for could be ranked in a week with $50 spent on the right services.

Thanks! I don't have an answer for the ballpark stats. I found out after I started my blog that the keywords are very high competition or saturated. I was very naive! I don't use a monitoring sw so I have only my industry comments about the difficulty with the Google Slap, etc. So you could say what is said is it is highly difficult.

Traffic Travis has a free version good for 5 sites. Its data is not a 1 stop shop, but its a good start.

Download it now and run the analysis.

Post or PM results and i'll let you know what i think (no selling, just my opinion - you've spent enough!)

Hey Carrot, Thanks for the recommendation! Got it installed and it looks like I have a TON of work to do. Dang! 467 page warnings. Geez. 1752 backlinks. 348 pages indexed but only one is ranking at #144, xml map is there and ranking with Alexa @316,249. It'll be slow going to correct everything and hope this will help with ranking. This is more information than I had before so thanks. This would have been a nice tool when I had only a few pages. I have done a ton of work on the blog so I have some cleaning up to do. I am going to see if I can outsource this clean-up processes. Thanks again!!

Probably not as much work as you think. Your site is Wordpress correct?
If so, chances are those page warnings are the same few things on all pages, and can be fixed either by changing your seo plugin settings, or minor changes in the template file.

To let me get a handle on the work ahead of you, click on the SEO tab in Traffic Travis, then select the competition sub tab.

Click advanced settings, then choose your country location, and set results to 10, then click 'fetch'.

Im interested in the 1st 4 colums data - difficulty, PR, backlinks page and backlinks site.

Will give you (and me) a better idea of what you are up against.

NOTE dont sweat about the backlinks numbers too much, sitewides etc can inflate these to intimidating amounts.

Carrot, I'm such a newB. I tried PMing you and I don't have enough posts. Ha. Anyway I have the results but it's a lot of info and I can't copy and past them. Can you PM me? Maybe your email so I can get you the .pdf or a screen shot .doc file. Any other ideas? Just to give you a a quick idea on the the difficulty level. Traffic travis gives 5 keywords for this report and all 5 are "difficult" to "very difficult". I'm doomed. ;-D

Carrot makes some good points. I hate to tell you but $1,000 could have gone a long way on very effective link building services. I'm seeing very good results with Build My Rank, despite what a lot of people say profile links are still very powerful if you're using the right outsourcers...

Quality content is #1, which is seems like you understand, the right on-page stuff which again it seems like you understand, but after that it's all about back links, and good ones. Submitting to a bunch of PR0 article directories isn't going to do anything unless they are getting syndicated on real sites- you'd be better off writing BMR posts, and using some of the highly-rated backlink services here on the warriors for hire section.

I began realizing this about a week ago and it's too late. Maybe I can negotiate a settlement to get some of my money back. I'll look into the "Build My Rank".

Wow! That's a lot of money for a course.

People get very complicated in their SEO techniques, but it really depends on how competitive your keywords are and how strong your competition. If you are targeting something difficult, then it will take every tactic in the book to get yourself ranked. That would really require outsourcing unless you have a lot of time.

If it's not an overly competitive keyword, then I think you just need to be more selective. Focus on quality over quantity, and relevant links.

More than that, however, don't rely on Google for your traffic! You'll ultimately get burned. Network where your market is, whether its forums, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, YouTube or elsewhere. Those are great links, sure. But the real value is in building traffic directly from sites like those.

Going back to your course, I'd also say that you should try to evaluate just how profitable you think your blog can be. If you're going to have to invest a lot in SEO outsourcing or your own time, it better be worthwhile. Otherwise, there are many other niches out there.

Thanks! You are 100% right. They are making it complicated and it was sold based on the difficulty of the niche where the niche got the Google Slap so they sold me on how to organically get around the Google Slap on this saturated keyword. I simply don't have time for all of the work.

I have two fan pages but not really getting too much traffic from those. I may be looking at a very long ride with this niche. I don't want to give up on it. I have a lot invested in time and money.

      Hi, and welcome!

I know how you feel - I did the same thing when I first started my business.

My 2 cents - Since your traffic hasn't increased any, try doing something else.

Fighting the search engine war is no fun.

Get out in your community - what I mean by that is, since you're a blogger, join a blogging group in your niche. Look around for forums or chats where people in your niche would be.

You will see much better results this way -

      Hope that helps!

Thanks for the support, I'm sorry you had to go through this. I will be looking at other long-tail keywords in the industry that are less competitive but I can't close up shop on my niche, I'm too invested.

I am doing what you suggest and networking with other bloggers in my niche. I think it will be slow but I get some traffic from that. A few hits a day is all.

Definitely a high price for an SEO course where it doesn't seem to be delivering. I can't really speak to that though without knowing more. Regardless, you need traffic!

Are you only wanting to focus on SEO, or are you just looking for ways to generate more traffic period? Give me some more insight..

I suppose the short answer is traffic. I believed I would generate traffic through my efforts of on-page, off-page SEO and backlinking. BTW, thanks for the skype invitation.

Take my word for it....Dont worry so much about seo!!!

SEO CAN ONLY GET YOU SO FAR......some niches it gets you nowhere and in some niches you live and die by it. Imo I would much rather build my traffic in more reliable ways that wont F me if google wakes up on the wrong side of the bed one morning

Honestly if you cant network in at least a minimal way in your niche that is a niche not worth being in

I am building a new blog now and it will be launched in mid FEB. I will tell you exactly how I will build my traffic

    VIRAL

I will be running 2 different viral scripts on my blog. Hopefully every 1 visitor will turn into 3 and build from that.

On top of that I will be using youtube to advertise my site..... WIll I be making my own videos YES..... But is that what will be getting me traffic NO (well I hope it will but its not what I am banking on )

I am building connections with much higher people in the food chain in my niche on youtube and getting them to advertise for me.....how I am doing so is a little secret

But if everything goes as planned I could have 40,000 unique eyes on my site that I wouldnt have had

and lets not forget about the viral component.

The traffic that I already would have would hopefully give me 3 people for every 1 (honestly it will be more...but its just a simple number for the example).....Now throw in the youtube connections traffic.

This is a much more reliable way to go about gaining traffic. You are DIRECTLY DEALING WITH PEOPLE...ACTUAL PEOPLE

With SEO you are dealing with a theory.....A theory that you will rank for what you want to.....A theory that they will search for that phrase.....A theory that they will click on your site

Sorry but thats too many variables for me...My focus is better spent doing other things

You have your plugins....you have your on site seo...Just stop there and just do the other stuff you are talking about every once in a while

I have spent about $400 (hosting and all) and I feel like I have what I need to take off like a rocket once I launch my blog...

If I had another $600 I would drop $200 on ppc and use the rest on more viral tactics

I would much rather deal with tangible people than intangible google bots....I dont even know if i used tangible and intangible correctly there but u get my point lol

and if the course is a year long I would see if i could get a refund lol

what exactly COULD THEY TEACH YOU that would take a full year?

    NOTHING

H3LL in a full year you could learn the meat of information from the top 10 Internet marketers and probably a SEO guy...again the meat

what exactly are you doing in this 1 yr span? If you are spending a lot of time sitting on your butt than see if you can get your cash back now! It will only be a detriment to you and in the end will waste a year of your time.

To give you a reference, Frank Kerns courses (over $1000) are around the 4 week span

He more than likely is jacking around with you. Is this course dripping content over a period of time? If so he is probably trying to stall for something

    Are you a Guru in that niche? If not either;

    - become a Guru,
    - change niches to something where you know you are a Guru;

I have been working in a home based business since 1994 in various industries in my local area so I know my stuff about home based business from beginning to thriving. I easily could be a small business consultant and package my skills. I am blogging about it and promoting a health and wellness through providing value of my home based business skills but I can't get the online exposure that I want. I fully plan on putting an online coaching program but can't get the traffic thing. I spend so much time on the SEO and off-page backlinking that I have little time to be creative with my vision of a coaching package. It's only 4 months out and I'm in it for the long haul. Home based business is a competitive niche, I have come to find out.

One piece of advice I'd give you is to also focus on email marketing. Create a free mailchimp.com account, offer a giveaway, free ebook or something, and build a list to mail out on a regular basis. This won't necessarily help your SEO, but it'll keep bringing traffic. And if your readers enjoy your articles, they'll post backlinks fro you when they share your content.

    Good luck!

Yip! The premise is that I learned this niche got the Google slap and is considered "very difficult" and therefore I needed some ammo to shoot down all of the obstacles and come out on top. The niche IS very difficult. I tell ya, after I'm done with this thing, I would know enough to start my own SEO school. ;-) It's pretty indepth. I'm simply struggling with the time aspect. I'm only in it for a little over 40 days and realize the amount of work involved is more than I can handle. They back it up with an additional amount of help after the course is over and they have testimonials so it's suppose to be really great. It's suppose to be the holy grail of all colored hats combined. I gotta say, I don't appreciate that they say I need to sign up for their affiliates in order to get results. That sure does stink to high-heaven. I don't feel very good about it now. I regret buying it.

NetLady, you've been stole, now you are wondering why you didn't find this forum before buy any course. I've been there too.
Here you've gonna find loads of info(for free), try to focus in 1 thing first and then move on.
The first thing I'd do is learn how to find profitable keywords with low competition(if you don't know how to do that, you go nowhere),fact.
Then learn SEO,off page thing, you will find many services around here.
I think you're going too ahead, forget mail list, don't spend money with autoreponders yet.
...Yeah, get ready to spend more money too, but on the right services and programs

You might want to diversify your backlinks. Obviouslly the contexal type backlinks that you are using are good, but a natural looking site in google's eyes would have more than that. Try web 2.0 properties. Blog comments, Forum profiles. Etc.

Thanks Matt! I have four Web 2.0 accounts and have been commenting almost daily on various PR level blogs. I don't spend too much time on the forums, mostly Facebook. I would really like to spend more time creating packages instead of backlinking. I really felt like I had my backlink strategy figured out but I keep working on it.

I'm working on the refund option. They are slow at replying. As far as how I find my keywords, I used the Google keyword tool. I have used Wordtracker too.

Here's the best advice in this thread..ready?

Give up. Not in marketing but in this niche. At least for now. Go back to keyword research and start building something that will bring a return. Once you do that then you can invest in trying to rank your competitive niche.

Also, who cares how much time you've invested. Take a long hard look at whether you should give up. That's an important part of being a successful marketer. Identifying when you should give up.

The problem is you don't have the experience to know when that is yet. That is why advice to set it aside and start from the beginning in a new niche. You are not learning anything with one sample size. You can't tell if anything is working. You need to cross reference information on a new niche.

    Good luck.

I'm not ready to consider giving up. I feel as though there is work to be done that could make a difference. This is a niche that I am passionate and know so much about, it's been my life for nearly 2 decades. If anything, I will pull back and re-evaluate but not before I think I have done everything that I can do. I was just turned-on to Traffic Travis so I want to see what this does to shed some light on my traffic and I am only half way through my 40-day challenge e-book so I am not ready to give up. I was oblivious about any "problem" with my traffic expectations until 30 days ago so I have been only working "hard" at traffic intermittently for 30 days. It's not enough time to say, "I have done everything". There is an answer, I have just been steered unnecessarily in the wrong direction which created a complication.

It seems that the amount of money you put out for the SEO course is out of line. The answer to your question is in plain sight. I believe that this course is way over priced for what is promised to deliver.

Sigh. Yeah, I've been hit over the head enough times about that so far and it's time to move on. I am going to try different things. The warriors here are AMAZING and have been very helpful and directing in.

There is no hard and fast rule to SEO, I think best way to learn SEO is to gather info over the net and try to implement it.

Just an update but first I can't thank you all enough for your help!

That SEO course that I bought...cancelled my subscription. Woohoo! I am out only for the first two months which I think is fair. I am thrilled about that!

I have had ZERO time to work with TrafficTravis. My offline aspects of the business are actually taking off and between the kids and finding time to blog...forget about a clean house...I am struggling with time. I guess that I need to take each thing as it hits me in the face.

Being free from the expense of that course, I plan on looking around here for a service to either councel me or optimize specific pages that I want better ranking on. There really only a few pages that I feel are really important to rank better but I am at a loss. Any recommendations???

My daughter (3yo) sees the "smiles" on the side while I am typing this reply and wants me to use them. Here's for you sweetie. :p Okay no more...

      Thanks everyone!!!
