Duplicate Content Question...Please Help.

Hi, I hope someone can properly advise me here. I am about to launch roughly 10 websites, targeting 50 keyword phrases, all promoting the same product. All of the websites will have unique content (5 pages of unique content - one for each keyword phrase). However, all of the sites (at least as I am now planning them), will also have about 3 or 4 different pages that will be duplicated on the other sites. These pages will not have any keyword that is targeted at all, they are just extra pages on the site to personalize the sites.

These pages that are all the same are basically telling my experience with this product and how it affected my situation. On each site, there will also be links that go to these pages that are the same on the different sites, so there will be links that are duplicated on all the sites.

My question is, will this be considered as duplicate content by Google, and therefore keep me from ranking my sites in spite of my SEO efforts? Is this a situation where I need to actually spin the content of those duplicate pages for each website so that they are not considered duplicate content? I would like to avoid that if possible as it would be kind of time consuming.

Another thing is, all of these sites will be wordpress sites that are basically cloned from the first site (which has taken me forever to build), only with unique content for each site.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

It is advice to remove those content and replace something else.

As for me, Google do not penalize duplicated content like the old days, the big G would give lesser mark on these pages.

Nothing big, it would not affect your Top Level Domain(TLD) as I know.

    Why?

Days of the multiple websites to crowd out others is long gone. The days of building a content rich site to rank on page one of google are here.

Why not take the effort of the ten sites and use it to concentrate on one great site.

The reason for the 10 sites is that all of these 50 keywords are low traffic keywords, but combined, they could result in decent traffic if I can rank for them all or a large percentage of them. Also, many of the keywords are very similar, so I want to spread those out on different sites.

Have to say I agree with hustlinsmoke, in this post-Panda era that strategy of yours is going to be completely ineffective.

Instead of worrying about duplicate content just concentrate it all on one authority website and focus your efforts on getting it to rank on page one for your chosen keywords.

Otherwise it's moot point if they are perceived as duplicate content, as no one will ever find them on page 974 anyway.

We posted at the same time so I'll add this:

Instead of making 10 sites make those longtail keywords you were going to focus your mini sites on a PAGE on your authority sites. Then optimize those pages for their respective keywords.

You do know all your pages count in rank and some will show up separate than others. An affiliate sales site can have ten pages all ranked different, If you have fifty pages they still all stand on there own and your site stands on all fifty pages. Hope you understand that.. Because I'm dizzy now lol.

P.s. when I build websites they are either mini's or full. A mini is about 15 to 25 pages. A full is about 26 to well some have hundreds. I use three keywords per page. One works just fine. I use different keywords for each page. I have some pages ranking on the first page of google some ranking on the 100th page of google. But they all stand on there own merit. I do not think google merits pages because of one page. I do think they de merit because of one page though. Now Im dizzy again.

I am sure you also plan to link your 10 sites together. You will have to watch that closely, too. Too many links, too quickly looks suspicious to Google.

10 puny sites will not be nearly as effective as a master site.

If your site contains multiple pages with largely identical content, there are a number of ways you can indicate your preferred URL to Google..

Actually I wasn't planning on linking any of these sites together, as I wanted them to all stand on their own. But I can see why you may have thought that due to link wheels, etc.

My main reason for making 10 separate sites is that so many of the keyword phrases are so similar, and I didn't want to have one master site with so many similar keywords, as I felt that would surely qualify as duplicate content and then get me slapped.

Yes and if you link without using whois guard and google knows all the sites are your sites they will penalize you. Those days are over too. Another reason I have been deindexed before. !!!Man I really need to write that book on the best ways to piss google off lol.

Well, if you are are using these pages just in terms of information, but have no real concern to rank them, you can simply toggle noindex and nofollow in your theme option for these specific pages.

Otherwise, you should never duplicate an entire site (such as header, homepage, etc) because Google doesn´t want to see duplicated sites in their index for the same keywords, and will slowly but surely remove them.

Perhaps you are misinformed about what "duplicate content" really is.

You see, having the same text on multiple sites is not duplicate content. If there were true things like article syndication wouldn't work, and most news sites use syndication like mad!

Duplicate content refers to having the same content on more than one page on the same domain as a way to game Google. You are fine having the same text on several of your websites.

I must agree with this statement. IMO, even having the same content in 1 domain will not get your site penalized since duplicate content penalty don't really exist. "FILTERING" is what makes this argue end.

News sites are reviewed by hand by Google, and are therefore whitelisted and treated differently than "regular" sites.

Also, the Google duplicate content filter applies to content across multiple domains and it isn't called a "syndicated content filter". This shoud be a clue to how Google feels.

If having duplicate content across multiple domains is such a great idea, why not just buy 20 domains and mirror the same content 20 times and enjoy 20x the benefits?

And to those who think Google loves syndicated content, why don't you do the same thing? Why not add the following strategy to the end of all of your site's content pages:

...Surely, since it's so good for Google and their users' experience, why not do the same for your readers? After all, it's just an example of syndicated content.

You are obviously experienced and have been doing this a very long time, what is your suggestion on how I need to handle this? I am not trying to create poor or repetitive content for any reader, I am just trying to rank for these keywords, so that my content is in front of all the different readers that will come from the different keywords.

I agree with Amanda here. As long as the domain is different, you can publish same content. But it shouldn't be repeated on the same domain.

I just don't understand, even if you put up ten pages with the same keywords and all the pages are unique, they will all be ranked by thereselves. So you could have ten pages on google on page one.

Now lets say you have ten sites and all ten sites rank for the top ten sites on google. You still have the same top ten pages, just different sites.

First off, thanks for taking the time to give me your input (and thanks to everyone else as well). Honestly, I am just somewhat ignorant in regards to SEO (in spite of the WSO's I have purchased on the subject), and I have just been trying to make sure I don't do anything that will hurt my chances of getting rankings on these keywords.

Also, I have purchased 10 domains that are exact matches to 10 of the strongest keywords, and I thought having an exact match keyword domain may help me to rank easier for those keywords.

Another concern I have if I were to go with just one site, is having links to all these different pages with similar keywords on one site. Google may see that in one way as all the pages would be unique, but a user would see all the links going to all the other pages with unique content that is basically saying the same thing...so from a user perspective, that would look like I was obviously doing something weird. In order to prevent that, I would need to change the links from each page to only show a few links, instead of all the links in the site.

That would confuse me trying to figure that out...wordpress sometimes throws me, and often times a simple solution that takes 20 seconds to do takes me hours of research to figure out how to do.

Yet I know, that I am in the company of people who have a much greater understanding of how all this actually works, and I appreciate all the input. Perhaps it boils down to what will be the easiest way for me to accomplish my goal of ranking for all these keywords.

It is but if you search google for urls with the keyword in them you will see even if the keyword is makemoney and the website is internetmarketing that google will show the url as How to Make Money Online by Starting a Home Based Internet Business | Internet Marketing Center Google still considers that the url in the title.

    Thanks,
Spider, When you are already devoting time and efforts for the sites, why not have fresh content for ach and every place? you can certainly use the same keywords, but if you will keep the content fresh you may have all the sites ranking for the keywords.. Just imagine first 10 places for your sites !!! I think noithing could be better than that (I know it is a long shot).. Also, kindly remove the myth from your mind that if you have duplicate content you will get penalized, it is just that google doesnt appreciate much and value less the sites with same content.. If you want to know anything else, feel free.
