I had some quick questions about direct linking in Adwords.

Is it still a viable strategy?
If so, what is the proper way to do it?

I have been experimenting, but all my ads are disapproved. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or the strategy itself isn't going to work.

Thanks!

There's nothing wrong in direct linking with Adwords. Just as long as the landing page conforms to all their rules and guidelines. What I suggest is become extremely familiar with all the rules and analyze every page you're thinking to promote to make sure they would pass. Of course, the page could change and that could get you in trouble in the future. Most Clickbank products are bad for having pages that would not pass Adwords. You should not have problems with the vast majority of affiliates in CJ. However, I know not all CJ merchants allow you to use PPC.

Why are your ads disapproved? Go to your keywords in adwords interface, hoover your mouse over the quotation box beside the keyword and read what it says. It may not have to do with your ads, it may actually be your landing page.

If it is your ads, did you read the ad writing rules? Make sure to follow the standards for capitalization, punctuation, use of of superlative words like best etc.

Make sure you aren't direct linking your campaign, Adwords will not allow it.

Make sure your landing page meets the policies - not filled with excessive ads, unrealistic promises, pop ups etc.

Somehow I missed the first sentence or did not read properly. You cannot direct link in your Adwords campaign.
