The latest Google algorithm update 19/1/2012
It is all about finding good content with user friendly layout. It is now focusing on users, that will be messured (I think) on the time spent on the page. And basically on the header.
So try to have clean header with few ads, and make sure the content is shown as top as possible on the page code.

      Hi rastergraphix,

You may be a little behind the times. Panda 2.5 is old news. Since Panda 2.5 there have been plenty of updates.

The latest was an update to the Hotel Finder feature: Hotels by Travel Time which is a specialty feature without broad ramifications. Before that was the Page Layout Update, and prior to that was the Search, plus Your World.

I had one site that specifically went from ranking to not ranking for a pretty competitive term in the last 2 or 3 days. On that site, inside of the content floated left I had 2 250x300's stacked, so I suspect that may be a violation lol. So I got rid of one of the stacked units. We will see if that matters.

Yes. It is especially dangerous for people with MFA sites.
But if you have content above the fold it should be so dramatic.
Google already has some rules about content to ads ratio above the fold. In general you couldn't have more space covered by ads than you have space covered by content.

I think the header ad unit could be a dissaster, i use it in all my websites and i got hit. Not sure if that is the reason but in any case i removed it.

Do that and add a ad unit in the right column or something.

Google stated awhile ago on their TOS about ads above the fold. Fair enough as well, if any of us go to site for information, we want to see that information not a slew of ads. I think people have changed as well as I've seen my CTR on ad units change from being those at the top to those at the bottom. People are more inclined to read content before clicking on ads. I've seen started to place ads in the middle and bottom of my content which has seen my CTR increase again.

The latest Google algorith update, page layout algorithm improvement, the change noticeably affects less than 1% of searches globally. That means that in less than one in 100 searches.
