What I eventually learned about Backlinking

After months and months and months of searching kws and looking up the top 10 competition on Market Samurai, I think I have learned a few things

whats important that you need to pay attention to on the top ten competition?
Backlinks to domain? irrelevant
PR? hmmmm interesting but kind of not that important
Domain Age? same thing , interesting but easily overcome
Yahoo and Dmoz? ignore

Important ones ?
Onpage SEO factors, kw in title, url, header, description, Pay attention if these are N N N N, you can attain a significant boost against these sites by
optimizing your site for these factors

Backlinks to PAGE. Very Important, pay attention to this and watch very closely. But what if a site has 1000 or 3000 backlinks to page, is it worth my time?
Well its not so simple, The only backlinks to page I care about
are ones that have my anchor text in them. All the other backlinks are not really relevant. Google isnt stacking up your site (or page) against ALL that sites backlinks, its only comparing RELEVANT backlinks

So if a site has 5000 backlinks to page, whatever I pull down the PR and Anchor text comparison for Market Samurai (little arrow pointing down to the right of the url) I check ok hmmm this site only has 25 backlinks with my anchor text. or whatever, GOOD

Or sometimes I see sites that have 1000 backlinks with my anchor text, Hmmm I say. Oh wait, whats the PR of those backlinks? ALL ARE PR0. (sometimes happens) Now THAT is very relevant and that site can be outranked, well that page can be outranked, on those kws easily with a few high PR backlinks I dont need 1000 backlinks to outrank a bunch of PR0 backlinks.

So see its mostly about the backlinks, for THAT kw that I am trying to rank for , and then its also about the PR of THOSE relevant backlinks with my anchor text, Thats all you really need to focus on , IMO,

So If I see ok this site has 10,000 backlinks to page, I used to think oh no way, I cant compete. But perhaps those backlinks only have 25 for MY kw and then all those are PR0

I know the veterans all know this , but I have determined , you can outrank sites with TONS of backlinks even if they are high PR sites,

(who cares what PR the SITE is, or what PR the PAGE is? Its only the PR of the RELEVANT backlinks, thats all that matters)

Now If I find a site with 300 backlinks to MY kw, and those are high PR backlinks? Then yes I will skip that kw, and go on to an easy one

I am not saying nothing else matters, PR Domain Age, etc are a little bit important, but for the most part I have found that this is how Google is ranking the site.

Also they will give boost when the backlinks age. If you have 100 high PR backlinks and so do I? if your backlinks are older you win, since your backlinks are aged more than mine. I would need 2 to 3 times as many backlinks if mine are new, in order to compete, since mine are not aged.

This is just my assessment of how Google is placing sites
This is not something that is talked about that much mostly people just talk about how can I backlink a site, Most of what I learned about Backlinking I learned on Backlinking forums, and those guys are obsessed with it. Backlinking is not an easy skill to learn, it can be overwhelming to a newbie, I know I was very intimidated by it. But with Market Samurai (I only bought that in August or Sept) that was like the magic keys to the castle. Before that I was running blind

If you are a newbie this information I just posted is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT
It took me about 4 to 5 months to really grasp what is important in Market samurai competition analysis, and most people just look at "Backlinks to Page" and stop there

You MUST dig deeper and see what are the RELEVANT backlinks and what are the PR of those backlinks

Best way to learn Market Samurai is IMO YOUTube, Thats how I learned, I watched about 3 hours of videos maybe 20 videos, IMO you cannot learn Market Samurai by reading on a forum, you must SEE WITH YOUR EYES ON A VIDEO someone using it

go to youtube search for
"Market samurai SEO analysis " or something like that

Here is one I found that is Very long 30 minutes, watch this
The more of these vids you watch the better you get

watch a bunch of those vids

    Hello outwest,

I've found your post VERY useful, thank you for sharing

As a newbie, I have some questions:
    - What are those backlink forums you mention? Could you please share them?
    - Is bad to have a lot of PR0 backlinks pointing to your page, or they just don't have any effect?
    - How do you know against who you can compete and against who you can't? I mean, if you plan to create your backlinks manually, what number of existing backlinks can you beat?
    - You didn't mention anything about the domain name, I think that's extremely important too.

    Again, thanks for sharing!
    Angel.-
