What's the best web host should I use for my site. I'm planning on creating a site on how to do stuff. It's going to have a lot of downloads from realtionship to IM etc etc. I don't know what host should I use I was planning to use hostgator then upload a site via WordPress what do you think.

Hostgator is great, I can vouch for them. Their customer support is awesome, they respond in no time to questions.

Hostgator is also pretty cheap, considering you can start with the baby package, which is (as far as I can remember) only $5/month.

X2. HostGator is a very reputable company with great support. I would highly recommend them.

Make sure you read the Terms of Service. Even though everything is "unlimited", you are limited to a number of inodes...

      So technically, it's not unlimited.

On the other hand, you may never reach that limit, but I have seen people go back and forth with hosting providers who offer "unlimited" services, and get their accounts suspended or are forced to upgrade when they hit the inode limit.

You can cancel anytime and get a pro-rated refund. So if you want to get a lower rate and buy for a year and decide for some reason to cancel you will get a refund for the amount of time you haven't used.

No one ever mentions GoDaddy as a "good" webhost. I've never had any problems with them what-so-ever in the past 3 years. Aside from recently coming out and saying they support SOPA, they've been great. Their customer service has always helped with anything I needed and they were surprisingly super nice.

So what gives? Why is GoDaddy the black sheep of web hosting?

    Hi yamaha racer,

The hosting won't matter. You won't make any money. You can't have a site that cters to everybody. Who is your target market? "How to do stuff" is too broad. My advice is to solve one problem. One website. One problem. One niche. Then worry about the other details. You'll be much more successful that way.

You should see this top of the best hosting providers
    thebesthostingweb.com
The top was realized taking in consideration the following aspects: guaranteed and tested stability of the servers, accessible prices, no intermediary companies, number of hosted domains, very positive feedbacks.
    I hope this helps.

Another vote for HostGator. I find it easy to use.

I also use DreamHost, which I do not like as much. I signed up for a year of hosting though so I use it for trial sites and mockups and then move them to 'Gator when I'm happy with them.
