Feedback on my first Facebook ads campaign

Hi all,

Recently I've been trying an experiment with Facebook ads. I am trying to sell a Clickbank product that costs $238, and pays 75% commision ($179). The product is an online video series that should be of interest to college graduates. This is my first time trying Facebook ads so I would like some feedback. Here's the data I have so far:

- I set the demographic targeting to college grads, age 20-44, in four particular US states. The "estimated reach" is about 10 million.
- The suggested bid was .33-.79. I set my bid to .79, the high end of that range.
- The ad has received about 50,000 impressions in 2 days. It received 10 clicks, for a CTR of 0.02%
- My actual CPC is .50, so this experiment has cost me just $5.00 so far
- Of the 10 people that clicked through to the sales page if the Clickbank product, 2 people clicked through to the "Order Form" page. There were no sales
- I have noticed the owner of the product is advertising with Google Adwords. I don't know if he's profitable or not.

My questions are:

1) What would be a good sample size to determine whether this is worthwhile?
2) If I continue to make no sales, how long should I continue this campaign?

    Hi mkpoway,
Here's a couple of things that you might consider. Firstly I think that you could drop down your bid price considerably, I usually find that 3p above the low end -36c in your case- is more than sufficient to get you views. Facebook will spend just as much as you are prepared to give them so you might as well maximise your traffic.
Your actual ctr of 0.02% is a bit on the low side - but with facebook so strict on advertising copy these days, it's difficult to get a proper 'call to action' without them dissaproveing the ad.
It is quite usual to get up to ten people or more to click on the 'order' without following through, there are a number of reasons for this.

How long should you run the ad campaign ? hmm usually I would run a campaign up to the final commision value of the first sale, if I do not have at least one sale by then I would pause the campaign and re-think the ad copy, or indeed whether or not it is feasable. In your particular case however, you stand to lose a fair chunk of cash with that scenario
Personally I would risk about $30 before pulling the plug on it - but it's anyones guess I'm afraid. Always better to get a sale early on, that way decisions are a lot easier.

    Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks James. Can I ask, have you been able to find Clickbank products that can be advertised profitably on Facebook? And if so, how long do those campaigns last? I've always thought it would be quite difficult. I'm only trying this experiment because the commission $ of this product is so high.
