PPC Brainstorm: Promoting a musical Album

Hi all - I have a topic I thought it might be interesting to talk about today. Aside from my IM business (where I make a little money), I also have a record label business. This is essentially a hobby where I shoot to break even but I try to do right by my artists and promote them as best I can.

The album in question can be checked out here: Deconbrio - Voyeur (MP3 Album)

So! As I am sure many are aware google sent out adwords cards last week and I have $200 in adwords coupons burning a hole in my pocket. I am gonna try and use these and PPC to promote this album.

So, I guess the question is, with such a terrible selling product as music, what keywords might you try to target? And where would you drive customers? A landing page? Directly to the store page I linked above? I am happy to say, give away a free mp3 on a landing page if that seems like a good strategy.

So yeah, I'm a total PPC noob and open to any good ideas! What does everyone think?

It's probably pretty niche... and the most nichest of niches might not be searching on Google.

Have you thought about syndicating your ads on the adsense network, have them show up on blogs etc, and get some traffic that way?

If you're offering tracks for download you got an easy call-to-action to put in an ad.

Maybe offer the best tracks for free download and build a list, then sell the Album (and Albums from other artists) via Autoresponder.

Your Artist might not like the idea and I'm not sure it will work, but it *could* and that's the whole point of marketing. You have to try everything until something sticks.

It will be difficult to build up enough account history and your Quality Score with a limited $200 budget. If you do proceed with that budget, make sure to follow these steps to stretch your money as far as possible:
    - bid on exact match KWs only; broad and phrase match KWs will eat up your budget in no time
    - set up geo targeting to only show ads in regions where this artist/music is most popular (California, NY, etc.)
    - set up day parting to only show ads during "normal" hours; I realize that people are into music at all hours of the day, but ads that run from 2 to 5 AM usually don't convert as well

Good luck. I hope this helps!

As pointed out, people are not going to search for this. You need to have your ads on sites where those more likely to be interested in that kind of music to be hanging out.

You'll need to change your landing page somewhat in my opinion to make it work better. Offering one or two free song downloads is not a bad idea. Invite to follow on FB and Twitter.

Youtube is another avenue to pursue. Maybe press releases.
