What happened to the traffic?

Hey guys,

I am promoting an Amazon product for the UK market for quite some time now, over a year I think and so far this product was going not too bad.

My main keyword is located #2 on Google.co.uk after Amazon itself and there was reasonable traffic to the site (say 60-70 visitors a day) and that was when the keyword was searched according to Google Keyword Tool 6,600 searches per month (EXACT).

Today it shows this keyword is searched 8,100 (EXACT) searches in the UK per month but my traffic is down to about 20-30 people per day. That same keyword is still #2 on Google UK.

How is that possible? Maybe the tool is wrong? This is something I can't figure out and there's nothing more to do since I can't get over #2.

Ideas?

Thank you all....

Maybe the searches only visiting the top search on that keyword.. That's why your site's visits decreased..

It is quite Interesting Stats that you have mentioned in your Post! How could it Possible that Search Engine Volume of The keyword Increased and Traffic Deceased while keyword remain stable?

There could be two main reason Behind that!! First One is That Google keyword Tool might not be working properly! Secondly if you observed search volume declined on weekend! There are less visitors at weekend comparable to weekdays! This Might be the major cause of this scenario!

    8000/month searches
    #1 google gets 60% so 8000 x .6 = 5000 searches/month

    #2 google gets maybe 12% so 8000x .12 is approx 1000/month or 33/day

you are right on target for that amount of searches per month

I Understand the math, but how come when the search volume was less I has more visits and now it decreased even though I remained on position #2? Interesting and frustrating at the same time...

      Thanks,

Normally, for product searches, traffic slows down in January/February. Google keyword tool is not real time.

Maybe you've dropped to #3 or so? How do you check rankings? You could be seeing personalised results.

      Hey,

No, I did not drop to #3 as I am #2. These are not personalized rankings, I am not logged in and I haven't clicked my site at all and I got to Google.co.uk and even when I do &gl=uk at the end of the address just to be sure I am placed on #2.

      More ideas?

      Thank you.

    Also
Google kw tool seems to be a yearly monthly average
it not like you can say EVERY month gets that amount

its probably 96,000 searches for the last 12 months so that averages 8000/month

    when that could have been
    Jan 4000
    Feb 5000
    March 11,000
    April 10,000
    May 11,000
    June 6000
    you get the picture,

plus their numbers I dont understand since they round off to 100s

My main term last year they said gets 9900/month
Now they say 14,900 so thats good,

May be you have observed that the Alexa traffic rank is also dropped for most of the sites. it is believed that Google always do not show the right results may be these are the specific reasons that you are facing.

  • Have you changed your title and meta recently. If yes then it may affect the CTR. It means that the new title and meta is not much effective. If you haven't changed the title and meta then it should be temporary decline. Wait and Watch.
