When to pause a keyword in PPC?

If I have a keyword that is getting the most conversions, but also costing the most (more than I want per lead) should I pause it?

My issue is that we use a separate phone tracking service so I can't tell which keywords are actually converting into phone leads..

You have to figure out which keywords are working for you.

Sometimes this is not always easy - and often impossible to do.

But that would be goal number one

So ... its not as easy as saying stop it or let it keep going. Obviously if its costing you more than your making theres are few concerns. It seems one of the most predominant issues is tracking. If your ok with keeping it going for a while I would recommend -

Create a specific landing page for the keyword ... this should boost quality score and reduce your max CPC.

Create a measurable metric (either web based ie contact form or unique phone number). Phone numbers are really cheap nowadays so theres no reason you cant buy a number for cheap to test your conversion levels. We personally use 2-12 numbers for tracking various marketing initiatives.

TEST your landing page to better improve conversion rates.

Optimize your website/page for keyword phrase(s) so you can start getting organic traffic rather than having to pay for the traffic.
