I'd like to verify something, if I want to have a new website to be hit, is it necessary (or just a good idea) to have somebody who knows about SEO before I start building it? I'm just not sure about that.

Not quite sure what you mean by " website to be hit " ? If you want to know about SEO before you build your website, get a book called Search Engine Optimization an hour a day- by Jennifer Grappone and Gradiva Couzin. Not expensive and will help you from the start.

Wow that was fast, I meant since SEO has to do with the code that is behind the site I'm showing to my customers, I was wondering if it was necessary to have it in mind before doing the whole design or if it could be optimized later. I'll check out your recommendation and let you know.

You could optimized it later. The only thing you'd probably want to optimize in the design/creation process is the linking structure (how the pages link together). You could then go back later and add on-page SEO like title tags, description tags, etc.

So when I optimize it "according to SEO"it will not necessarily change the whole structure? Is it enough to get tags like you say? I'm sorry, I'm such a newbie on SEO

Have you picked the Domain name yet? If you can use a domain that has your niche in it that would be good. As the others pointed out, structure and links are important so I would make sure you have someone who knows seo, help you with designing it.

Would that affect the design of the site? I mean, does SEO limits certain features you can use or ways you can organize your site?

Let me be more specific. Make sure your designer is using modern day web standards.

This means xhtml and CSS rather than tables and on page font attributes.

This will make it easier for the search spiders to crawl your site and also will make you page load quicker resulting in a better user experience.

    Simple answer:

Your best bet is to have it designed by a designer that understand SEO and have it built with SEO in mind from the ground up.

I urge you to learn about SEO first and then incorporate it into your site. It is not good to look for short cut. I did to my own detriment. Please, take the time to learn. Warrior forum is the best for you. Once you fully understand, then start putting into practice what you learn.
