Which looks better .org or .net

I own the .ORG and the .NET of an exact match domain. Unfortunately the .COM was taken, however it is not in use. So I plan to make one of them my main domain and simply redirect the other to it.

Do you think I should use the .ORG or the .NET tld as the primary domain? SEO wise, I realize it doesn't make a difference, so I don't need that advice. I'm just wondering which looks better.
#net #org

it depends on what the site is about. the .net looks like a tech company while the .org looks like a foundation.

    • I would usually go for .net, but for no real reason other than that I like the way it looks. Ranking wise, I don't think it makes any difference.

.Net, unless you are ACTUALLY running or working with/for a non-profit company and the site is about that.

For some reason, when I think of .ORG, I think of an organization. Not like a company but like planned parenthood, goodwill, or the actors guild. May just be me but I'd go with .NET

As others have mentioned, it depends on what type of site you will be creating.

If it is a business/service type of site, I'd go with the .net. If it's an informational site, eg: health advice, then I'd go for the .org

It doesn't matter which looks better to us. We're internet marketers, some of whom will instinctively prefer ".net", of the two - so your answers here are possibly going to be biased that way.

What matters is what your customers want, which depends primarily on the traffic demographics and secondarily on the niche and type of site you're putting on it.

Knowing nothing more than that, I can offer only the observation that if it were for myself, I'd want to use the .info, and redirect both the .org and the .net to it, because my customers prefer that (I asked them, and that was what they told me, collectively - together with their reasons).

But if the .info also isn't available, I'd almost certainly use the .org and redirect the .net to it.

All that said, I'd be very reluctant indeed to build a business on a domain-name of which the .com version already belongs to someone else, because I expect that in the long run some of my work would end up benefitting the owner of the .com at my own expense.

Which is why the New York Subway system, the MTA, chose a dot info.
      As in "information"(?)

I see a lot of health related niche sites, tend to go with .org so depending on your niche I guess.

To all cargo-posters: Are you not reading a single reply?

Or you just type the first thing that pops into your heads?

So when many cargo-on with "Ohh...com....org..net is so much better..."

The result is a thread that just morphs into nonsense.

Personally, in most cases, I would go with a .org before a .net but that is just my personal preference. You must do what feels right for you. It doesn't really matter what we think.

they both get some sort of, so called 'bonus' in the Google serps rankings, but honestly if you're building a site that gets a good quality score, it's going to rank no matter what the tld is.

although the .net domain name usually was related with tech-themed sites.. currently they are widely spread on the internet users mind..if i asked me to pick one up.. i would choose the .net one.. as org ..it seems like a non-profit organization or things like that!! from the seo point of view, no matter what you take because they are top level domains whatsoever!!

that's not really true. That 'was' kinda the idea when there were just 5 types of domain names, but it was never enforced at all.

I really don't think it matters anymore. The vast majority of people connecting to your site will be people that just search into it. At that point it won't matter if it's .us, .net or .org. Then if they find it valuable and want to return they will just search it again or have their url automatically populate it.

It depends on your site's topic. if you are making a non profitable site .net goes better and if you are making the site for companies .org goes better.

If you provide value the search engines will reward you no matter what the extension is. When your consumer is coming in from the search engines the only thing that matters is the top 10. However if I had to choose I would go with .net, its a personal choice only.
