Wordpress SEO and Categories

Wordpress supports %category%/%postname% as the url.

However, with hierarchal categories, it gets messy. for example:

mysite.com/grasses/bird-grasses/bird-grass-reviews/western-grey-grass-bird-grass-review

notice how EVERY category in the path is shown?

1) Now... is this a GOOD thing? More category keywords for context?

2) Or is it a bad thing (item keywords appearing farther to the right?

3) can I fix it so just the "end node" category is shown?

4) or should I make it use JUST the post slug for the url?

Thanks,
John

Don't use any categories at all in your links

Make the slug short as possible, yet descriptive of the page.

Yeah I was leaning towards #4 myself (first off it prevents duplicate pages).

If anyone has a different opinion though.. I'm open to hearing it.

Try to keep the url as short as possible from the SEO point of view. Lengthy urls are most likely not be easily picked by google. Any controversies??

Use the Post slug alone and implement breadcrumbs on the pages.

I agree with this. It's what I do and it works for me
