Couldn't decide between development and here for this question, figured it was more of an SEO thing so here it is.

I had a quick question about sitemaps. I made some changes to my site and fixed the some errors yesterday, so I generated a new sitemap today. Normally when I have generated a sitemap it has always shown 11 pages (correct size of my site) Today when i generated one it is showing as 1 page in google webmaster tools.

I can't remember in the past if it showed as 1 page until google looked at it then it became 11 or if something is incorrect this time. I would ad a link to the sitemap but I don't think I can post links yet.

Thank you all in advance SOO much for your help, this place is INCREDIBLE.

Seems like i figured it out, I will post what worked for me and maybe it will help someone in the future, also someone might have some input on why it happened.

I was using an auto .xml generator to make a site map. I have two redirects set up.

One that redirects www . mydomain to mydomain ,

another that does mydomain . com /index . html to mydomain . com.

I believe it was somehow causing the generator to only index the root domain not the rest of the pages. I installed a dreamweaver add on and got a sitemap that included everything.

I still don't undestand how it happened exactly, i thought i had a canonical set up from mydomain . com/ to just mydomain . com but when I looked at the code for my published site it wasn't there, so that kind of screws my theory.

totally sorry about how chopped up that is but it was bi$% to get the forum to allow me to post anything that looked like a link since I have less than 15 posts
