Simple. You are given a unique HTML code. You put it on the page that visitors reach when a conversion is made (for example thank you for your purchase, sign-up confirmation page). Adwords does the rest tracking whenever that page is reached after clicking one of your ads. It tracks for 30 days, down to the ad and keyword levels.

As you have to insert the code on a page, you need to be able to edit that page. Won't work on Clickbank products unless the merchant is willing to do this for you, which is highly doubtful.

ok, I see, but if someone visits the thank you page by other means, ( browsing webfiles, typing in the html url file) a false sale is made, right?, how do I avoid this?

Make sure the thank you page is nofollowed/noindexed.

Also make sure it is impossible for people to "navigate" to it without going through your purchase options.

I highly doubt people are going to type in your thank you page url manually just for the hell of it.

Google Adwords Conversions will show you people who make it to your thank you page from Adwords. Not people who go from organic or other linking sources.

Make sure you place it in the <body> </body> tags.
