Advice on getting traffic for a newbie please?

Hi everyone

I have designed and started a website and so far have made zero sales.

The only thing I have so far is a Youtube video which has been getting about 4 views per day, over two weeks.

Not sure what to do next as i'm new at this.

Could anyone recommend an affiliate program or something else which is not going to take up much time.
Maybe Google ad words would be better, I really have no idea?

Thanks for your time.

Mark

It took me a little over a month to make my first sales on my first Amazon sites and i did not expect to make any for at least two months so I think a couple of weeks is a little early to give up on your site.

    Hello Mark,
First of all you need to spend sometime before starting a website, Do proper research, If you are making a niche website for any specific product, It won't reach on top in a day.
Patience is the key. Just be sure about 1 thing have you selected the right product? If your answer is yes, Keep working on it. Try to get it ranked on page 1 and later position 1 as well ( Why Not ).

a few months ago, I posted here Why I am big failure in Affiliate marketing. As in my overall career of 4 years I never made any affiliate sale though I was not targeting it too.
I spent about a month to get right product. When I made site, I was also very curious like you but my got some moral booster comments n tips from fellow warriors.
I keep on working and tried adding every possible thing what I can, after 2 months I got my first sale and it motivated me.
Now after 6 months I am getting average 1 sale a day means about $40/day from 1 product. My investment is hardly $100/Month.
Patience & Hard Word is the Key.
If you have both You will get success for sure.

    Cheers
    Anki

If you are concentrating on on getting free traffic then I would suggest uploading more video's on YouTube as you are currently doing whilst setting up a facebook fan page, twitter account and posting on those daily.

I also suggest creating yourself a blog with links to your site and posting on forum's with a signature which contains a link to your site.

If stuck there are numerous ways you can find free traffic ideas online and You Tube is a good way to start :-)

You should try to submit your website information to Search Engines that way you can get a higher ranking on Google and gain more visibility.

You also need to create a Facebook Page, invite your friends and family and motivate them to pass your info or re post it.

Definitely adwords...if you are not in a high demand sector, you can get traffic with pretty low cpc.

There are so many ways for you to get traffic as a newbie, you've just got to learn and be patient about the results. Sources like articles, press releases, web directories, blog commenting and forums are some of the basic ways for you to get traffic.

Traffic is all about consistency, you need to keep doing whatever traffic method you choose to use, day in day out, so that you can create a snowball effect.

There are many free traffic generation strategies out there here's a few:

    article marketing
    blog commenting
    guest blogging
    forum posting
    video marketing

The key is to find one which you enjoy doing, and one that reaps in the most traffic for you. Then go full throttle with it.

    Hope this helps,

    Jack.

Come on guys - give it some thought.

      How does the internet work?

Where do people go to find information and things to buy?

Two places mainly right - Search engines and social networking...still mainly search engines.

Now, think about the mindset of your customer when they go to search for the product that you will be selling (how are you monetizing this by the way??)

It all starts with the desire in the market, then flows through the product or service you are offering (either your own or as an affiliate or CPA front-end) which then guides you to the keywords and context you need to rank for.

Once you have all of that...then you can use techniques such as daily blog posts OPTIMIZED for your target keywords, press releases with links back to your content, articles, social networking posts and bookmarks, guest-posts on other blogs, affiliates (if you create your own products), etc...

Done this way, there is no reason you can't be seeing 100-200 unique visitors each day to your blog within a couple of weeks and 3-4 times that within 1-2 months (as a start). Even better, this traffic should be targeted so that you actually see that traffic spending money with/through you.

Thank you all for your input.

It's true there are so many options.

I guess it's easy to get carried away with opinions on this fundamental issue.

What would be great is hard statistics.

Maybe someone that has a track record of success [like many of you here] could give a break down of where the sales came from , what source.
The sales is the key not the visits alone.

Anyway hope this thread can help us all save time and money.

Another think I would like an opinion on.

I was just given a quote by an experienced SEO person .

He said for my new website I would need 2 hours a day for at least 3 months for SEO.

So that would be at least 180 hours work.

Does that sound right to you?
