Im building a site in the fitness niche, and im looking for alternatives to adsense just in case i get banned. Low possibility but its good to have contingencies in place anyway. There's:

Selling banner space
Adbrite
BidVertiser
Chitika
Infolinks
Clicksor

Does anyone have any specific experience with any of these programs in the weight loss niche.

If you're not a fan of CPA Marketing, why not go for Clickbank? You're in a lucrative niche and once you get decent amount of traffic, you'll just leave some money on the table with advertisements.

CPA offers and info products are the best ways to monetize this niche. You may also collect their emails via opt-in form, create your own products and sell it to them.

This is a great niche to do a info product in which generates income and builds a buyer list.

If that is more than you want to take on then I would promote some good clickbank info products.

Just make sure that you have good content on your site and that the click bank ads do not conflict with the adsense ads and your good to go.

I have projects in the same niche and I have had experience with Adbrite, Bidvertiser and Chitika. Let me first say that None of them produced very much. Adsense actually performed better than the others, but like you, I was worried about being banned since, one, you can't control what Google or any of the other networks do, and two, they are kind of trigger happy when it comes to banning accounts of all kinds. And affiliate and CPA offers out performed adsense by around 700%.

So, two things I will offer here..

    1. The only way to tell is by trying the different networks. Try one for a month then try the next for a month and so on. My personal opinion, having used every monetization method known to man, is that contextual ad networks are for the birds.

    2. The other thing I would say is that, if you are open to other monetization methods, you may want to have a look at some of the CPA and affiliate offers. I don't like the shady offers either and I don't run them, but there are plenty of offers out there that are transparent and completely above board.

    3. Ok, one more thing...selling ad space directly will likely be much more profitable, at least it was for me. Although, it does require a little more work, payment processing, customer service, etc.

My top monetization models have been 1. My own products - hands down. and 2. CPA offers and some other-than-cpa affiliate offers. One more note on affiliate offers, I have not had very many clickbank products perform that well for me. Offers from commission junction have done fairly well (diets-to-go, ediets) and a couple of EWA offers seem to do well, too, as long as you presell effectively.

One thing that has been working really well lately has been running cpa offers as interstitial ads on one of my blogs. I use a wordpress plugin that allows you to run any kind of interstitial you want on wordpress. I have not tried interstitial ads through a network. Might be worth a test, though.

I know that doesn't specifically answer your question, but I hope that helps in some way. The truth is that no matter what kind of feedback you get, the only way to answer that question is to test them out. Everyone has different results and sometimes it's very difficult to tell why one thing out performed another.

    Good luck to you.
