How to get Alexa Ranking?

Alexa is a reflection of visitors to your site that have installed the Alexa toolbar plugin for their browser.
You should install it on your browser and at least your site visits will be counted in their ranking. Some general traffic will most likely help your ranking- hope this helps

Err, Ah, lets cover some basic information here, a lot of people make the mistake of assuming that Alexa is not a big deal in the world of SEO, that would be a huge judgement issue, Alexa is backed and indeed owned by Amazon.com which no only is one of the larger retail stores online but is also owns of the largest Hardware infrastructures on the face of the planet.

It used to be true that you could use cheap traffic to influence your ranking but that has changed as you might expect no business remains the same else they risk sudden destruction, its just the law of the jungle...

Another common mistake and outright "un true" Rumor, is that the only traffic that "counts" for Alexa is if you have your own toolbar installed, (Totally not true at all) a man would have to be daft to think that, simply because Alexa is not a toy, its a huge player, in the world of SEO, but so many people make the mistake of thinking that Alexa does not matter that it can be tricked or it can be fooled, but that is simply just not true at all.

It would be a huge mistake to not take into account Alexa in terms of how your website ranks.

Looking at the Alexa ranking, you might think that the number of backlinks would be a good indication of positive traffic growth, but what if Alexa is much more sophisticated than we give them credit for being.

Now, looking at this website, you can see that both the traffic and the backlinks do not support the idea that the sheer number of backlinks is a good thing at all, and it also can show you how important quality traffic can be, cheap is not always good.

The reason why I am sure of this is that second website is mine, the links and the traffic are quality, no tricks no BS, it really does pay to go with quality over cheapness because you get what you pay for and if you pay for cheap traffic you will get cheap results, and another interesting thing here is that my website, is all organic, not one single paid advertisement, or traffic source.

Quality content, Quality backlinks, Quality Authority websites will outperform all these tricks you see advertised all the time, (page one in google over night)

yep what they fail to tell you is that in one more night your right back to the bottom of the pile. I would rather have a long term average ranking than a page one for a few hours.

So, if you think you can Fool Alexa with cheap auto surf traffic, and lots of low quality backlinks Think again.

Why are you even worrying about your Alexa rank? Instead, spend the time to get good quality human traffic to your site and the alexa rank will follow. Search engine ranks will make it go up and down, well, has the affect to change it.

If you are really concerned about it, ActA makes a good point- download the toolbar and make your homepage your "default" page in your settings. Do this on a few different computers.

You can get under 100,000 Alexa with 90 or so USA visitors per day. Keep striving!

Just install the alexa toolbar on every computer you can and browse your site. hah. Just joking but yes it is only a tool to help you gauge your work... wont benefit you very much.

Another question about Alexa... People... Try to increase visitors to your pages, NOT alexa ranking... You could have a 5,000,000 Alexa ranking and make sales with your website/blog...

I agree with a previous poster... Alexa plays a role in SEO but only to a certain point. Alexa has become very good at evaluating traffic quality. In fact, the more organic traffic I get, the better my Alexa rank.

It never failed me on that, but you must give them time in order to get accurate results although they are still estimations. It's not perfect, and many folks will say that Alexa is worthless. Don't listen to them. Their just steering you in the wrong direction. That's typical to send you and your business into an abyss.

Listen to your gut feeling and it should tell you that Alexa plays a role or they wouldn't be there. Do you really think that hundreds of employees at Alexa are paid for doing nothing? Think again folks!

You have to done all the off page activities of your site for alexa ranking.

I find it hard to believe that junky websites rank in the top 100k but my well put together website sits at 1 million+. It makes sense that everytime your page load with the alexa widget that counts as a view.

In order to get good Alexa Ranking.

You need to get more and more traffic to your website every day.

Alexa ranking will be increased , when traffic will be increased day by day.

At one stage, if your traffic stopped and getting constant traffic, than your Alexa ranking will go down to the lakhs again.

So, try to increase your traffic using ppc, ads, increasing back links and many other things.
Choose which is suitable for your website.

I think you have to focus more on Google rank rather than alexa.

1. buy some ssh accounts ($10/year) for proxy, install toolbar yourself and visit your own site every day, with different ssh ip. I can get into >100k position easily with this method.

This past Week I was interviewed by an Alexa marketing and service representative, So when I see nonsense posted online, by probably well meaning but UN-educated, warriors, my first reaction is to laugh.

While we were talking about the Alexa services, and discussing this very subject, we talked about how the Alexa service has evolved from what it was a few years ago, there are now very sophisticated metrics and analytics in place, in fact from what I saw on my Shared Screen, it was incredible what they can offer, in terms of visitor statistics, and none of which by the way has anything what ever to do with a toolbar,

(So you can imagine reading about how only tool bar visits are used to express traffic, is funny but not really funny at all)

For those of you that knew this already, good on you, for those that did not know it, you should really pay attention because the Alexa Ranking system is no longer something that you can just use a proxy bot to artificially inflate your website stats.

I don't get it why most internet marketers take Alexa rankings seriously. Alexa doesn't provide any impact at all to any website's search engine performance and traffic. Instead, pay attention to how you can get traffic and good search engine rankings naturally.

What is alexa? it is none but a № of hits * time spend on your site, gathered from toolbar users. It has nothing to do with backlinks or anything else whatsoever.
Does it improve your ranking? Hell yes. Though it depends on search engines.
One of the key factors search engines follow (apart from relevance) appears to be 'authority'. It may be a bit more complicated, especially with google and pr, but I would generally assume that what they are trying to sell us as something mysterious as 'authority' simply stands for popularity, otherwise it just wound't make any sense. What is job of search engines in the end? Right, it is to display the sites that the users want to see, or in other words the sites that are popular. And the more popular your site, the more they would want to expose it.
Now the funny part, is that alexa, although not being accurate and actually subjective... ehm, but it appears to be the only way one can measure and estimate the actual traffic of your website. And IF it wasn't taken into consideration by the search engines, they would do a DAMN BAD job. Because seriously, one can buy pagerank - by means of backlinks - and there are some ridiculous sites that have gotten pr8+, now what else, an aged domain... what else? Social likes... whatever, but it's kinda hard to get much of the real traffic. Though, of course, it is hard to get as much backlinks as the Wikipedia too, but that traffic definitely appears to play a part of equation.
Imagine what a search engine would better suppose to show us? A dead site with 5000 backlinks, or a an active site with 500 backlinks? I know it's kinda hard to tell... let's just assume they would generally have an equal opportunity, but that depends to the query. But if site has no activity and traffic, we would assume it has to do with trends, and that people don't want to browse it anymore, and don't want it appear in serps. Of course, that's when the search engines would have to react and take traffic into account to provide us better results. And what is the source of traffic stats? right...

Alexa rank depends on many parameters like good amount of traffic, traffic sources, link building, Alexa toolbar etc. Among them Alexa toolbar gets highest priority.

However, Alexa is still very effective to know traffic of a website, it is true that those sites are counted which have used Alexa Toolbar but they are natural......so you would get overall estimation.
