Hello Mary,

I'm a newbie too but I think you should use social bookmarking to your advantage. Got facebook account? Why not advertise there? Aside from blog posts, try to include a few relevant, long articles on your list. Pass them to high authority sites. You can also embed a video.

There's plenty of free advice here in this forum, so have a search around first before you go parting with any money. It may save you wasting money on stuff that wont work or you don't need. You at least need to try and get an idea of getting the right keywords to focus on.

If you've had a look around and don't fancy doing it all yourself then go over to the Warriors for Hire section and choose someone with good feedback to manage a monthly SEO campaign for you.

I am a newbie too. For SEO matter, I suggest you do some following things.
1. Download 'All in one SEO pack' plugin if you design site with wordpress. This plugin is quite a good one.
2. Download Google XML Sitemap plugin
3. Download 'cbnet ping optimizer' plugin. It will ping your new post automatically.
4. Submit your feed to many RSS directory. For example, feedage

If you are looking for organic traffic then you need to choose particular set of keywords in your niche and region. Optimize your website according to those keywords and start off page activities like article marketing , web2.0 and social bookmarking to get better serp.
BTW you can do link exchange as well

First you should understand what is seo and how it works. and which kind of seo strategies you want to use. there are 2 main types of seo.
1: on page (your url, page title, mata title, sub title, content and h1, h2, h3)

2: off page (articles submission, social bookmarking, forums, web directories, blog commenting. )
and
social media sites fan page
social media marketing
youtube videos
submission of RSS feed
