Can You Lose PR On A Newly Bought Site?

Not taking into account any G algorithm changes, just purely from one owner to another, if I buy a site that has a PR of 3,4,5 anything other than 0, can it drop just by transferring it to another person?

Theoretically I would think no as you arent changing any pathways for locating pages are you, all you are doing is changing who hosts them, but then again I am not an expert.

Would welcome any input. Ta

Yes, I forgot to mention that if the person selling the site is using a 301 redirect to fake the PR of the site and they remove the redirect after the sale, you will loose the PR when the next PR update is done.

It pays to look at the backlinks in detail to see exactly where PR is coming from.

Some of the sellers are using this way to cheat the buyers so one has to be very wise to check the backlinks and actual PR before going for the deal. There are some efficient tools to check this.

Just because Scrapebox says it is real, does not mean it is real. You need to investigate more than that.

Google updates the PR in their bar only a few times a year, so you will notice changes on that PR value only after an PR update. But internally they change PR all the time. The PR number you see, is only a snapshot, the current value only google knows.

Havent got Scrapebox but does the site: check on G then checking the cache not show up fake PR anymore?

Checked backlinks on random checker and there were there but not on ranktracker.

Checked a handful of the backlinks and they go to sites that are parked and are for sale. These, I am assuming, are faked as well because they are PR2 or higher and there is literally nothing on them.

      Hi icon,

As long as the backlinks are preserved the PR will be as well.

From the sound of it, the PR is already gone and you won't be able to see it reflected in the toolbar data until the next data export.
