I've tried different themes, and different advice. I can't seem to get my CTR above 1%. I tried the CTR Theme and still no change. Is a 3 or 4% really possible? There are people claiming to have over 10%.

Everyone has there thoughts on text or image and where to place them. Is there someone here that can show me an example of a blog that is getting over 3% CTR?

I am getting about 200 page views a day on about 10 different blogs. I know that nothing for many. But CTR is CTR. I understand that a blog about insurance advice may get a different response than how to groom a dog using the same theme but I need some real guidelines to follow.

I appreciate any advice anyone can give me.

Yes it is... i thought it was impossible as well before as my CTR were atrocious (below 0.8% from 2k/day pageviews!) for years, then after learning some placement and really spending a lot of time tinkering the placement, colors, ad type, and stuff, I can get around 1-5% depending on the traffic that's coming in (where they're from as I do get quite a bit of South East Asia visitors and the ad quality aren't as good as US/UK visitors on certain KW, for example)... That's with teh traffic remaining the same BTW...

Of course, if you have less page impressions (ad impressions) on a page, teh CTR may be higher, so you have to set a baseline page view count first...

I have some sites with 20-50% CTR but that's based on 1 click out of 5 page views for example LOL, so that's not really valid nor helpful especially if it's once in a blue moon.

Adsense for Search tends to give higher CTR, double digit is common but CPC is often lower.

You need to do some experimentation and track your results to see what happens and what gets you the best results.

My CTR's vary from 3 or 4% down to under 1%, depending on the site. Some niches are more click happy than others.

You need to check your ads are actually relevant to your niche too. I had one site with a CPC of around $20 and I couldn't understnad why my CTR was 0% until I checked and the ads (for some reason) were not relevant to the content. Check your meta tags and on page SEO to ensure they are up to scratch as that impacts your ads too.

Best thing, do some testing. you've got enough traffic it won't take forever, but get some testing done and work out what does best for you.

    Cheers

    Jason

p.s. check out the adsense heatmap (google it) for best ad placement positions.

Hi, I am not a major adsense person but on some of my sites in the past I have got reasonable click through rates of about 4%. That tended to be in physical product niches where the ads coming up where specific to that physical product.

So depending on the niche you are in, you might be severaly restricted in what your CTR could be. But as I say I don't focus on Adsense to much.

My main adsense site gets about 1 - 1.5% CTR.

I have a big 336 x 280 at the top and I have my site navigation on the right and a 160 x 600 adsense on the left where most peoples navigation is.

However, with some recent changes in google I might change that around a bit since I think that might see that as to many ads above the fold.

    Hope that helps.

Where are your ads placed? I get 5-8 percent CTR with sidebar ad and two 336x280 banners in text or at the start of text. Niche also plays a role, when people look for information and advice I'd guess they don't click as much, they are in research mode. When it's closer to buying/product keyword then CTR is better. That's the difference between my site with 1-2 percent CTR and other's where I get 5-8%....

Niche and where your audience comes from plays a big role... If bulk of your visitors come from countries where Adwords spending is next to nothing, expect a lot of 0.01 CPC or even 0.00 (public service ads) shown.

I've read several threads here citing extremely low CPC values even if they get clicks but most of their traffic comes from low-Adwords presence countries.

In my photography site, for example (see sig), when bulk of the traffic comes from the Philippines, my CPC is horrendous, as are CTR rates because the ads are probably irrelevant and poorly made. But when I get over 50% traffic from US/UK/Can/Singapore etc. The CTR and CPC shoots up by a wide margin.

Where did you place your ads?
Try to place two 250x250 ads side by side in between your content (e.g after first paragraph).

One question come to my mind is... is the ads being displayed on your sites relevant to the contents?

This one of the reasons why CTR is low and even no clicks at all, even if you have big ad units display right infront of your visitors.

Check your the ads display if relevant. If it's not, work on your on-page optimization, but don't overdo it.

A lot of it depends on your niche. Other than that, give the viewer as few options as possible. Make the ads stand out.

Well your site visitor play an important role in CTR:

If you are on-page content is high and visitor engaging then CTR will be lower in this case.

If your visitors are literate enough to distinguish between Real Site Link and Advertisement Link then CTR will be low.

Then comes your ad placement, putting your ads inside content can increase CTR

    or

something like below and above category/post links increases the CTR.

Well my sites CTR is ranging between 7-12% and its consistent.

    Thanks

Sometimes there just isn't always very relevant ad inventory to display on your site. I have a site like that, where it seems the number of relevant advertisers is fairly limited. I have days where the CTR really jumps, I am guessing because someone is running a campaign that fits my site really well. Then it will slump again, and I am guessing Google is serving up only fairly generic ads for my content (I say guessing, because it's quite hard to know exactly, especially if you don't live in the target country).

It may just be a fact of niche site life, unfortunately - it's part of what makes some niches fail and some succeed, among the many other factors.

As far as placement goes, it's common knowledge that putting a big ad block below the header (H1) title is probably best for CTR, but I don't do that any more - for one it looks spammy, for another thing Google may well be penalising aggressive above-the-fold ads these days, and for yet another thing, if you inflate your CTR artificially like that, your site will start to show poor conversion rates for advertisers and you might get smart-priced. So you CAN do things to increase CTR, but I would be careful about that.

If you can't improve on CTR over a period of a few weeks/months by natural means, maybe it's just time to flip the site and move on...

All of you said some great stuff here regarding the CTR, but each website is unique, waht works for me can be disaster to someone else. It is all in testing. I used to have CTR below 1 % in my site, and after some testing I was able to get my CTR to above 2 %, and I've noticed no matter how hard I try and do the testing further, I can not raise my CTR to 3 %.
So, testing, testing, and testing !

I have a lot of sites monetized with Adsense. CTR mostly depends on your keyword choice. My worst site ever got like 2% CTR and I sold it ages ago... Most of my normal sites range from 4% to 10%.

Note: I don't use ads at the top, I don't trick people into clicking on ads and I don't do anything else shady. I don't even use any of the "Adsense optimized themes" <-- lol at people who fall for that crap. It's all about your choice of keywords.

And we meet again BNETWORK, and again I must agree with you

Most of people are writing about ad placement and colors, which is of cource important, but there is something much more important.

The biggest thing is type of your keywords and type of ads you are showing.
Here are main factors for high CTR
      1. High ad competition for your keyword: when there are many companies that are buying ads you will get more targeted ads on your site and people would really want to click because those ads are about topic that they are interested in.
      2. In what state of mind visitor to your website is: are they only looking for entertainment or are they in "spend money" mode. If you have keywords that are indicating that people want to spend money they will most probably click in ads.
      3. Does your traffic comes from regular readers or from "cold" traffic from search engines. When you have good content and regular visitors this will lower your CTR because they are used to ads and they are coming for your content not ads. This is not bed, this is just an indication that you should think about changing monetization strategy to promoting products with reviews, etc.

I have found that your click through ratio will be directly affected by how close your content matches your advertising. Because of this, before I write any content for my websites, I will have a look at all the advertisers currently bidding on the keyword and be sure that what the searcher wants is also related to the keyword. This way I can write my content accordingly to in a way induce clicks. I get an average of 5% CTR and use that as a basis before building a site to see how profitable it will be. I also use the HeatMap theme and it has given me much success as of late. Hope this helps have a good one!

All you have to do is THINK. If someone comes to your site,
why did they come there? What did they search in Google
    to find your site?

When you know that, then look at your ads. Do the ads
HELP the people who came to your site with the problem
they have or the information they seek?

If the answer is YES, then you will have a good CTR.
If it is NO, then your CTR will be 1% due to random ad clicks.

I had a site with 14% CTR once because the ads answered the exact question the visitors to my site had.

Sometimes, less is more. Moving an a 300x250 sidebar ad BELOW THE FOLD has worked WONDERS for me the past week on one site.

By wonders, I mean from a couple of bucks a day to $30-50 a day on that single ad unit switch. Same traffic, same content.

By reducing ad units, it increased CTR from less than 1% to like 10% for my other ad unit as it created less confusion and 'options' for the visitor.

Still, IT DEPENDS ON THE CONTENT, a site with articles running beyond 1K words all the time will perform different from a shorter content site.

The strategy for one site will almost never work for another site without ample amount of experiments, testing, and tinkering.

In my experience, some traffic converts alot of click but some not! I have expereince with some good ranking keywords average 200 US users daily but ctr is no more than 1%. No matter what theme i tweak and i could conclude that some niche has really diferent CTR . Frankly, i did not see any member mention if he has a constant CTR of 15-18% and all my site has that kind of such a CTR.

Do you think it is in the way of caution with Adsenes?
