Is this domain worth picking up...

It is a city + state + .net combination, so "citystate.net". The exact phrase "city state" has over 40,000 searches a month. And the search engine results show over 700,000 results.

The city+state.com and city-state.com are taken but don't show in the SERPS.

Is it worth picking up this domain and doing something with it? I thought it might be a good site for real estate targeting that city.

Certainly worth a try, maybe not as brandable as a .com, but still very handy for SEO purposes.

That is what I was thinking. Maybe put some content on it, and possibly even try to sell it or lease it to a realtor who targets that community.

if it's that many searches then yes, pick it up, as long as picking it up doesn't cost you..well, you'll have to decide what that number is I guess.

"City State" sounds kinda ambiguous; unless you have an State full of cities, or the state is nicknamed the "City state". You could, however, succeed from a website that acts as an information portal on state and all cities within each state. Give it a try. Extensions don't matter much, at least from an Organic SEO point of view. You may lose some "type-in" traffic, though, to the .com counterpart.

Well the key really depends on what you are going to do with it. It's good to have traffic but you need to have some kind of idea what you plan to do with the traffic. Just having traffic with no purpose is not going to do much for you.

    Instead of thinking,

Just test out by registering the domain name. And create one page website and do some On page and off page SEO work on your website.

And if your website show up in the SERPs then your are good to go....
